Yep just got back, 44hrs of travel time all up to get home...

Done a quick search and can't find any pics of Spencer's sombrero. I've been trawling this thread - http://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/brim-curls-kettles-pencill-etc.52149/ for some bash inspiration. I thought I was going to go a simple round crown or maybe gentle peek but now I've tried that I'm not so sure... There are some good ones at the beginning of that thread though. When my wife gets back with my phone I'll put some pics up

Hey I wouldn't feel guilty at all - it looks great! Doesn't matter if it was easy to do, it's all about the end result. Sometimes the best bashes are the simplest... If you're happy the looks leave as is I would!
Yeah the colour range is poor for sure, but I do quite like it - definitely darker than the classic akubra fawn. I ordered one as I want a pencil curl with a decent brim but also the colour is a plus for me as it's good for not showing dirt. I'm working on it at the moment, not sure whether to put the pics in the western thread or akubra thread though... Don't want to pollute this pure woomera thread - it's too cool!
I do have one and I like it. Wish they made it on another colors.
Put pictures of it on the akubra thread.

OK finally got a pick of my new one in its current state. Actually this was taken a bit before I went away, it's more dirty now. Problem with the dark colours is they show the dirt bad. Mid colours are best for dirt... Pretty happy with the bash, still needing to tame the brim. Haven't brought myself to ironing it yet...

Wow HJ - that looks really pro, flawless in fact... It must be a good looking hat overall now - any shots of it worn? What have you done to the brim?
Thanks for your comments WT!

Yesterday I took the brim out totally flat & level all the way around. I liked the way it looked & plan to add a small curl to the edge all the way around. I see it as a western dress hat. One side of the brim crept back a bit ever so slightly overnight so I will rework it, getting it all level to stay before I add the curl. Then I'll do some final refining to the horseshoe & all.

Not a fan of the thin ribbon now after I have changed the hat up. If I stay with a grosgrain ribbon I'll go with a mid ribbon but the hat now really screams for a vintage woven horsehair hatband. I like this vintage prison made band but it has already been sold. I don't like tassels much but I'll look around & see what I might find.

No head shot pics yet; waiting until the hat is completed.

Jack,
About 4:30 this morning I realized I haven't been to the mailbox since Tuesday, so I stopped by when walking the dogs and the feather you so generous sent , is here. I'll try to get a pic up later today.

Thank you!

Nice band.
I liked it too but it was sold.

I have a horsehair belt & matching hatband set, & another matching set which includes a horsehair watchband woven on an Omega watch. I had them done for me by an American Indian woman who has since passed on. I've worn the belts & the watch a bit but I've never used the hatbands because they have 1980's long style tassels & I don't particularly care for those now.

Thinking about seeing if a beader could replicate this horsehair pattern for me:

This is sounding really nice, how did you flatten the brim - by hand or an iron? Would love pics of it with a flat brim...

Very nice band too, I'm sure you'll find another like it with a bit of looking...

I have a palm-sized horsehair brush with a thick wooden back. It is oval shaped to fit the hand. I just turn it over in my hand & use the wooden back as sort of a iron. So I just use steam & flatten the brim first by hand on a cutting board from the kitchen, then as it starts to cool & hold shape I "iron" the brim with the brush. If I put lots of pressure on the brush I can even put a little bit of cup to the brim. Not sure how I will do a bit of a curl other than by hand, so I may not put much of a curl in it.

I reworked the brim this afternoon & squared & leveled up the horseshoe for the final time. So far the brim is holding shape so I'll take some pics tomorrow in good light. I'm liking the way it looks.

Looking Good Wedgetail ! I had to leave and missed everything . Yeah , other than smudges on light color , boy Black Hats , Black Trucks , & Cars are the worst about showing dust . I know I'm going to have to take my Woomera all the way down and start over . I messaged a guy that makes kettle curl , and pencil curl irons , I guess you'd call them . But they're wood . No response , yet . He's backed up , trying to get caught up .

Thanks for your comments WT!

That would look So Fine , or the copy of the Horse Hair in Bead Work with that Crown and the Brim work . I saw a vid on that lady and her husband that started that prison Horse Hair weaving , and may still do it . She's really good , and those prisoners get really into it and do nice work , too .

HJ , my Woomera has so much pull , I think I'm going to have to put a stretcher or block in to flatten it all the way . Procrastination ... , I know . Boy seriously with that Crown , Brim , and a Fancy Band that will be a Nice Dress Hat !

I took these pics just now on the porch to take advantage of the natural light. I didn't anticipate all the shadows from the trees & bushes so my apologies for those. But it's just too hot to worry much about it today. I had to come back inside to enjoy my coffee!

By the time I got to these head shots my favorite American Indian print shirt I put on was ringing wet. I just wanted to get back inside!
