I previously posted my custom Dave Viers boots. For a period of time he was offering custom boots that he had built by another company (I think it was the same company that builds the Wilson boots--maybe Champion?) Anyway Dave apparently would send your custom last to them to build a boot with limited options for about 1/5th of the cost of his, with a quick turnaround. Needless to say they never fit as good as my full customs, and I'm not 100% that my lasts were even used--maybe just a stock last that was "close". The soles always felt a little thin so I had them 1/2 soled. All in all I'm happy with them for what I paid, and I like the look--I believe they are buffalo calf--the tops are very soft, almost like elk.

Welcome Moto! I'm sorry you had a negative experience with PB--my dealings have always been positive (worked with Art the last time)--they missed on the fit of my latest custom boots the first time around (my measurements had changed some from my prior order many years before) but they were quick to remedy it, and they sent me some swag for the trouble. Art said that Mr. Bond insisted that a customer must be fully satisfied with the fit, and that they continue to honor his wishes. I don't think I could fit an off the rack boot myself and I have gone custom. Funny I went to the Wilson factory store when I was in MT and tried on every boot close to my size and couldn't find anything to fit. I believe PB is now out sourcing the in stock working cowboy boots now. I'm guessing that if you gave them a call and stated your dissatisfaction that they would remedy it quickly.

I have called and talked to Michael 5 times and he says he is trying to get the refund to me. Tuesday will be a month since they received the boots they sent me to try on and I still have a $750 charge on my credit card and no refund! I have no doubt many have had good luck with them and I am hoping they continue to do a good job. I have always thought about buying from them but never did. Now I am afraid to try a custom boot from them.

Wilson Boots were made in a number of places over the years and the quality control was not there so I stopped buying from them in 2011. Now they are under new ownership and all boots are made in their shop in Livingston MT. Like other custom boot makers they build up a last with leather to your measurements to build a boot and have some stock boots in standard sizes. Wait time is 6 months now.

Nice looking boots! You can see the quality in them. Over the years I have come to the conclusion that I may never get 2 pairs of boots to fit me the same. I always wanted to have a pair of Lasts made for and I keep them and then had who I wanted build me boots.

I thought I would update on my Paul Bond boot experience.

Since the last post I have called Michael @ Paul Bond Boots a few times and he has told me the accountant has me on the list to pay but as of today nothing has been paid to my credit card. I should have asked about 4 weeks ago to talk to the manager or owner. I am at times have patience to a fault. I ask for the manager and Michael told me Art was the manager. I tried to talk with him yesterday but he was not at work. Today I called him this morning, I told him about the boot fitting issue and the return of the pair sent to me for sizing and not getting money back to my credit card. Art investigated and he and I talked late today. He is going to send me paperwork for making me boots, colors, stitching, etc.
He offered to work to get me back the money but truly wanted to work with me to get me a pair of boots that will fit. After I hear back from Art I will post and update. I will say this Paul Bond Boots way to deal with refunds is poor. Art told me refunds do take 10 to 15 days but I have waited a month and should have had this by now.

More to come!

Chris Bennett. Not an easy pair of boots to come by. Beautiful work!

I have a boot related question.
With cowboy boots, do you folks match the color of the belt? Or does this rule not apply to them?

Actually, I had Bond do a toe bug on my Waxed French Calf boots--but yes, not typical.
Look nice! I am working with Art on getting me boots as they have not given my money back and I asked to have them toe stitched. Art did not seem to have a problem doing it.

I will post an update when I know more. Art has been working with me and should be able to start my boots soon.

Al’s Handmade Boots (Houston, TX); Candela Boot Co. (Weimar, TX); Mark James Designs (Rome, GA); R.L. Boyce Handmade Boots (Winthrop, WA) and Tim Alden Custom Boots(Rogue River, OR.) . These were added to that list of Custom Boot Makers map that's out there . I have a Western Horsemen Mag May 2014 that has a write up on Bob Boyce (R.L. Boyce) in it . No website for him that I could find . But he's on Facebook it says , and I have his contact # .
