Well, i finally talked to scott at langlitz about my custom columbia order. Im doing the padded pocket columbia in medium cowhide with several pockets deleted. Im deleting the arm pockets and the watch pocket on the front to clean things up. Im also going to have them use a tan thread for the contrast stitching on everything to make it really pop.

As far as the leather goes, id really like to order their goat, but im just so torn with it. I have a cow vanson in comp weight and scott says their med weight cow is close. I could probably talked into the goat, but i just dont know. Ive heard the goat can flap in the wind. I like that the goat feels broken in but id like some structure as well.

Sounds cool! Post it up when you have it! The contrast stitching against the quilted details looks super bad ass. In a way only Langlitz can accomplish.

Sounds neat! Read the review I did on here of a 30 year old LG Columbia I bought from a prominent member. I would be tempted to stay Steerhide, since in my experience Goatskin really does not show much break in or character other than the initial Goatskin grain itself. That and I prefer the smell that Steer & horse provide. Pretty subjective stuff but if it's for long term use, best to enjoy it completely!

Personally im not interested in how it will show patina. If i wanted a jacket to look broken in right from go id just get a used schott on ebay. Theres not alot in my size, but theres enough. Im not saying a broken in jacket doesnt look cool, its just not what im after here. This will be a riding jacket first and foremost. So far theyve told me that the medium fit would be better for a person my size, i had selected snug and the body length measurements are a little suspect. I could have measured from the wrong point at the top.

I really want one of those Pocket Padded Columbia's. While the sleeve pockets would be eliminated, for some reason I like having the useless watch pocket on front. About the only thing that has ever fit well into one is a smallish garage door opener.

What bike(s)?

I ride an old road king. Im going to be adding an ultra limited in the next year or so. The pockets i deleted seem absolutely useless in my opinion. I think i need to look at the length again tomorow. I may have measured a little short. Ill definately post pics when it comes in. There are alot of good pics on their instagram page and they look pretty good withoit the watch pocket. It seems to clean it up alot.

Ive looked at alot of bikes over the years and the big touring cruisers just fit me well. I really like the polaris products but theyre just not quite as nice as a harley but more expensive. Polaris has pushed harley the last few years but harley definately makes the nicest bike in that class. Who knows on the next bike. I may ad a goldwing instead. I just know i want a fully faired tourer. The king is absolutely my hot rod. Ive had guys with their new bikes blow it off only to be humiliated from 0-100.

Congratulations on the new Langlitz! I worked with Scott on my order as well and I found him to be very helpful. I went with the medium weight cowhide and I absolutely love it. It is a bit lighter than my comp weight Vanson, and much easier to wear brand new out of the box.
If you are not sure about the goat vs steerhide I would ask for samples of both. I would also ask Scott about any questions you have regarding your measurements. He had good advice for me when it came to jacket length, etc.
In the end I'm sure that you will be happy whichever route you go. I know from personal experience that Langlitz does absolutely everything necessary to make sure that they have a satisfied customer when all is said and done.

Any Langlitz leather is good leather, and it's a personal preference matter, but my preference is their cowhide. I get that goat is tougher by weight, therefore lighter, but I just like the feel of their cowhide. I'd go with that.

They will send samples with a catalog request. I have some as I was thinking about a new Cresent earlier this year.

As for break-in, the one I own is 30+ years old. Not that it would show that patina all that quickly. I sure get what you are saying.

Yours looks right for a riding jacket. Too long and it pulls the bottom of the zipper and pushes it into your face. I just got the call yesterday, mine is done. Im a little apprehensive about the length (possibly too long) but we shall see. Im pretty excited, i think i saw it on instagram friday but who knows (only them). Ill post pics when it gets here and i can get it. Im hoping it gets here before i start the new job because it will be a month before i get back home.

Congrats on the forthcoming Langlitz. You certainly won't be disappointed. I too have one coming. Hopefully within the next couple weeks. I stopped by Langlitz on my way thru town back in April and put in an order for a custom padded full straight zip Timberline in medium wight cow with black stitching on black leather.

I have to say, I had their 10 pocket padded Columbia in medium cow as well as their Western pants in goat, both purchased new off of their stock rack. Though goat is a fine hide, I just always craved and wished I had gotten the pants in cow; it's a texture thing for me - I just prefer the look and feel of the cow over goat. And as the leather ages, my opinion is that cow looks better. So I guess it's about looks as much as it is about texture. :D

I also have a competition weight Vanson Comet, and Scott is right, their mid-weight cow is close.

Forgive the solute, not intended for anyone within this community. My apologies if it offends anyone.

Blues, no offense taken. My "i quit" group text had a very similar salute to my former coworkers. Thanks for the input on the cow vs goat. I had almost talked myself into the goat but i liked the feel of my vanson alot, just not the fit. My order started as a 10 pocket padded columbia but i deleted the arm pockets and the watch pocket. Its a busy jacket and i wanted to make it a little less cluttered. I could see no practical use for those pockets without making up a reason to have them so off they went. I really hope mine fits as good as yours.

As far as turnaround, theres a little more to it. I gave them a deposite to get on the wait list back when i was working out of west virginia which would have been around march. I didnt fully commit to this jacket until about a week before this post started when i gave them another chunk of my payment, my measurements, and what exactly i wanted. Most of the wait time is exactly that. The turnaround on the jacket itself was only about a week by the time they got started on it. They almost didnt make my production date because i couldnt get my measurements done. I didnt really want to ask coworkers to measure me but i finally caved and did just because i couldnt get home. They recommended i go with the medium fit instead of the snug. They said its tough to build a jacket for a guy my size because measurements can be all over the place and the medium fit would be more forgiving. All i told them was its a motorcycle jacket, i want it to fit like a bike jacket. Its not that im incredibly overweight, im 6ft1 265....we measured almost 16 inches for my forearm. If anything im stalky. I think it was benny on the phone, wasnt suprised that my vanson was pretty tight in the forearms. Anyhow, ill post pics as soon as i can. Im headed back up to williamsport pa sunday and wont be home for a few weeks.

Oh, blues, on the sleeve zippers, is it a full gusset in there? Or is that area inside the zipper open? If i recall right, the vintage cascade i had you inzipped the sleeves and it was just open unlike the vanson which had a leather gusset.

The Columbia is a full gusset sleeve; I believe it's a feature of the Columbia. At least mine was.

Looking forward to seeing your cleaned up version.

John told me that if the planets are aligned, I may get it by the end of the month. I leave for D.C. on the 30th, otherwise it'll be Christmas in July.
