My 1992 Cooper A2

It is 25 years this month since I bought my 'orange label' civilian version goat skin Cooper A2. I cannot recall how much I paid for it back in 1992 but it was somewhat more than they sell on ebay nowadays. I bought it brand new via mail order. It is marked size 42R. The jacket isn't as trim as a WWII original, but I think that it fits me pretty well. I wore it all the time when I first bought it but have to admit its been some time since I last took it out of the closet. I think the time has come to wear it again on a regular basis. It has survived in very good condition externally. The only wear and tear are where the rivets of my denim jeans worn holes in the poplin liner. I have always worn it with the collar poppers undone.

I know from reading about the civilian Cooper A2s in this forum, and others, that it isn't the best A2 jacket out there, or the most regarded A2 jacket, but I have always liked it and will wear it again with pride.

Your jacket looks great. Goatskin is very durable. BTW - I was in Inverness last week for a day. Enjoyed a pint of cask conditioned ale at the Phoenix Ale House.

Nice casual, durable and well-fitting jacket. Looks good on you.

I have a civilian flight jacket of comparable quality too that comes in handy in a large number of occasions where I don't want to get my more expensive stuff dirty or possibly damaged or stolen. Always good to have that one jacket you can reach to and put on without second thought.

Totally agree with this which is why I now try not to spend more than $200 on any leather jacket. Once they go north of there the fun vanishes for me. I can afford $1000 or $2000 but why would I spend this on a piece of workwear? I've been wearing my Banana Republic leather more than I ever wore my Aero or other big money jackets. It does the same job, looks good enough and the big benefit is I can mistreat it and leave it behind without concern.

I totally agree with the previous comments. I wouldn't feel comfortable in an expensive jacket; I'd be afraid of losing it, damaging it or whatever. I wouldn't like to pay top bucks for a jacket that will just hang in the closet because I'm too chicken to wear it. This one I feel comfortable with, its been all over the place in the US, Germany and the UK, and I don't mind the wear and tear it has gotten over that time. While I can see the appeal of a top notch A2, and wouldn't say no if I got the chance to buy one at a price I feel I could afford, I will never fly in a B17 over Germany or go fighting aliens in the South Pole, so this ol' thing will do for me. ;)
