Before this thread drops too far, here's an interesting hat I picked up yesterday. Konsul hat in brown, no not brown: hell braun! Wonderful antilope finish (similar to an Esko hat I posted earlier). Thin contrasting ribbon and brim binding in gold (I can think of no other way to describe the colour). The size is noted on the label as 54 (!), but it fits my 56 to perfection. It had a liner once (there were loose threads inside the hat) but that was nowhere to be found when I bought it. A few sport on the ribbon and the missing liner did not hold me back on buying it. Maybe Steve knows who made this one by the label. Sixties or early seventies I think.

Stefan, Nice find! I think its probably late 1950s maybe early 1960s. I can't place the paper label or find anything on the "Konsul" trademark.
Steve, thanks. I dated it later because it looks quite similar to the esko hat, which was dated 1972. Whatever the date: the antilope finish is gorgeous. Here are the two of them next to eachother.

Another mystery find of last friday. Bristol hat in light brown. Size 56, bound bri at 6,5 cm and crown 10,5 cm at the pinch. Not the smoothest felt ever, but the shape is great and the finish is well done. It's placed in this thread because the label is in German. No similarities to other labels in hats I own, so no clue who made it. Qualität B (which would explain the feel of the felt).

And the last one of last friday's find. Hückel Durit in Elefant colour. Size 56 with bound brim at 6cm and crown at 10cm at the pinch. Lovely soft and thin felt, very similar to the Hückel I traded with John (Moehawk). Hückel Welheim, because it had the hanging cord at the back of the sweatband (but that got lost somewhere). Still needs a bit of steaming and reshaping.

Stefan, Sorry for the late reply. I went on the missing liner being stitched in. Is the liner stitched on the ESKO? Normally once you get into the 1960s German Soft Felts have glued liners.

Stefan, It does have a nice form though. Also another English reference with the "Bristol" trademark. I can't place it either, based on the paper label or construction.

Stefan, Another super find. Sorry the cord was missing but just a minor detail. I wear my Hückel Weilheims often.

Steve, thanks again. Both are really nice hats. The Bristol jst another one of the many well made German hats. I consider myself very lucky to have found another one of yjese Hückel hats; it's indeed extremely comfortable.

Steve, thanks. The Esko still has a stitched liner (Ernst Koln had high standards maybe).
Stefan, That is interesting (possible it might have been stamped later?). I have no idea who Ernst Köln (a men's store) contracted for their hats. I have some P. & C. Habig Wien Soft Felts from the early 1970s with stitched in liners. The Italian makers were the last to stitch in liners, Borsalino being the last.

Another great find. Interesting to see the number codes for the colours. Fascinating too how well the postal system worked considering how little information is given as an address.

Rehfus & Cie. Hat Factory "Olympia", French Point 5 / 57, probably late 1950s very early 1960s. They were located (Kehl am Rhein, Baden) close to France (Strasbourg / Strassburg) so probably why they used French Point sizing. Rehfus & Cie. closed in 1963.

Hope all is well!
