Now, to be fair for some brands, here is Eastman's latest offering. The pricing is meanwhile being discussed in another jacket forum.

N-4%20Jacket%20.png

They are asking £400 for this N4.

Actually, they're asking £499, which is an *interesting* price point when a Pike Brothers one can be had for half the price. But ELC do seem to have jacked their prices up considerably of late - I see they're asking £500 for a pair of military combat boots. I'm really not their target customer, so I'm not that bothered, but I feel a bit sorry for the poor guys who are now finding themselves priced well out of the brand.
I don't understand it really, tbh, but I noticed that Charles managed to slip a price rise announcement for Real McCoy clobber into his NASA posting, so maybe it's a niche-wide thing, but I'll be interested to know how much of an increase it can take before things go pear-shaped. Perhaps this is a game only for hipster trustafarians or hedge fund managers in full mid-life crisis mode?

@Sloan, did you bring up ELC boots on this topic over at VLJ? I feel like I'm having a lot of deja vu tonight.
I guess they have just figured that there are enough hipsters out there who will buy into the exclusivity of it. Why shouldn't they price gauge those people? Those people get offended if you suggest that they are overpaying, so go at it!

I think you are in error about HPA Rep Charles announcing a price increase on RMC products. AFAIK he doesn't stock them. I think that you mean BR? Understandable considering how the JPY has strengthened against the USD so far this year.

Combat boots were always a mystery to me and how much repros fetch. I getthat there’s something to be said for styles and techniques that no longer exist. Different Leathers and tanning options. There’s a beauty to it all. But I can go down to my local surplus shop which I do about once a year and look at the used and surplus options and they have so many things there. I know they aren’t as popular as they used to be so maybe I’m lucky that I live by one that’s thriving. But I can spend 50-200 dollars on some amazing options. If I were going to spend big money I’d go with a style or maker of boot that is unique and different than combat boots which I seal and polish a few times a year and beat the hell out of. But then again I’m from Western New York where we have winter for 5 months and fall for another 2-3 months and weather dictates buy beaters.

Visited the new ELC Premises today & was kindly shown around the showroom by Rob.
Really nice set up they've got going on, wandered around ELC, ELMC & Buzz products.
Can't say the new £499 jacket does anything for me, but I'm now on a collision course for a B3 next Autumn, after I pick up one of their Monarch contract A-2's in Russett (plenty of grain please).

I have a pair of combat boots, German & cost about £80.00 new I'd put that £500 boot money towards that B-3. Funnily enough, the 46 Irvin type I sold recently (ELC) was a bit snug, their B-3 was spot on in a 46 & the 48 swamped me.

Anyone want to buy a kidney?

What other clothing items are you now passionate about?

I imagine most people here would spend mainly on jackets and shoes / boots?

Got into pants & shirts too (have worn decent shoes / boots before the jacket thing happened).
Spending time & money now with the likes of SJC Clothing & Pike Bros, Stetson caps have also been on the hit list as have silk scarves and neckerchiefs...eyewear too

Funnily enough, when it comes to trousers, I am happy with just having a good everyday pair of jeans and a backup. Never really felt the need to beef it up.
I have to admit being curious about Pike Bros as I only discovered them recently when they were mentioned here.

For reassuringly expensive, Michael Jackson's leather in the Thriller Video, sold for $1.8M at auction a couple of years ago. For lesser mortals you can have this Gucci Leather for a mere $18650. Click on the link and you will see why they justify the price.

If a person who wear this jacket somehow visually offend another person so baad, he pull out his gun and shoot the jacket wearer, and by design naturally the bullet ricochets and kill yet another person next to the jacket wearer, would the jacket wearer be held responsible for a murder? how is the legal view on this Sup?

Nah, I noticed that earlier on - I'm a member of the VLJ but don't really post there - but I got the ELC email a few days ago and was gob smacked at the prices. I can't disagree with them, it does feel as if ELC has moved on to a different customer base.

And you're right, I meant Buzz, not RMC.

@Sloan, no worries.

I agree with your comment before about the kind of business model of this. Who are the customers? I mean, I'm middle aged with a good disposable income and spoiling myself rotten, but I kind of laugh at those prices.

Is it people 20 something hipsters with no mortgage loans or kids? That demographic won't last forever and fashions change.

I thought hipsters were kind of 'over' and mainstream now anyway? Also, I kind of thought that the real economy wasn't being so kind to most people these days.

It's a mystery.

@Superfluous, who called who an 'imbecile'? I didn't see that post. I think you might be exaggerating a little.
People can spend as much money on whatever they like.
Telling the rest of us we don't understand because we're 'only into leather jackets' whilst they are 'people that tend to be into high quality/heritage' is such a poor turn of phrase that it's begging to be criticized.
However, I feel (although I may be incorrect) that dudewhattheheck and I may have come to an understanding on the matter, and there is no combativeness on my part.
In light of such, I can only speculate on your late arrival at this thread with such a large spoon.
I'm not interested in berating the brand. As always with certain brands in particular, it's the 'cooler than thou' snooty attitude that hyperventilates when questioned that raises my ire.

You are misrepresenting what I said yet again. How many times are you going to do this?

I never said people didn't understand. I said people have different preferences. I already clarified my point about what I meant by 'high quality and heritage' and it was not meant as a statement of superiority. It was meant to clarify a certain type of clothing that people who tend to like brands like RMC are into. That's it.

As @Superfluous pointed out, I defended my choice of jacket because it was being discounted by people who disagreed. Why do I constantly have to defend my choice of Himel and RMC on this forum while I have never seen anyone do the same with Aero?

If anyone has a snooty attitude right now, it is you.

Hey guys, look, I thought this was all resolved yesterday, but the two of you seem to be egging each other on to try and whip up a problem where none existed.
This is really the last time I'm going to comment.

No one said;
'A certain kind of person prefers RMC and another Aero' (which is pretty patronizing anyway, what is this 'certain kind'?).

Dudewhattheheck did say;
"The kind of people who buy RMC tend to be into quality/heritage."

And I'm the one with 'a snooty attitude'?
SMH.

I don't see the point in trying to discuss this with either of you anymore. You're just venting your outrage.

This is my last post on this as well.

Jake said “People who buy Real McCoys jackets tend to be people that are into high quality/heritage or whatever you want to call it clothing...” conveniently you left out the part after quality/heritage that minimizes the severity of the comment. And when I referred to “a certain kind” it was the same people “that are into high quality/heritage or whatever you want to call it clothing”. Also, to be more clear, I think Jake is referring to Japanese high quality/heritage clothing, different than Pendleton etc.

Not saying they’re better than anyone else who only focuses on leather jackets, but it’s often a different niche that happens to intersect roughly at leather jackets with those on the fedora lounge. Hope that was acceptably clear.

I qualified what I meant by that statement at least 3 times and you have ignored me every single time.

Yes. You have a snooty attitude and I'm sick of it.

I have said several times that I did not mean what you thought I meant with that statement and yet you continue to paint me as snooty despite me clarifying what I said because it fits your narritive. You have proven during this discussion that you are not willing to listen to what I actually have to say. You latch on to a single idea based off of something taken out of context and continued focusing on that.

This is ridiculous. What is wrong with you?
