For most of my purchases, I pay cash. The bank note type of cash

I sailed with officers in their early thirties, who did not know what the term "bank note" meant.

They did not feel the least bit embarrassed when told it meant "paper" notes from a bank (such as the Bank of Canada).

AKA "money".

Most cashiers in businesses today couldn’t tell you what a Travelers Check is or properly identify one.
I have always kept a couple of travelers checks in my glove box for emergencies like losing my billfold. I asked at the bank a while back if I needed to cash them in since they are so rarely seen any more. She laughed and said exactly what you just did. "They're still good, but good luck finding a place that will know what they are let alone cash them for you." :(

I thought that was the expression used in the UK...

Well, it had the same origin. In the 'States, though, common battery service was usual in cities and towns from the 'Nineties onward, whilst local battery service lingered on into the 'Twenties in some urban parts of the GPO system. The expression was more generally used in the Mother Country. Over here it was a distinctly rural expression.

You know you are getting old when young, beautiful "Bond Girls" (who once you perhaps admired from afar) start passing away in their 90s. RIP.

Eunice Gayson, who has died aged 90, was an actor with a film, television and theatre career that spanned several decades. Despite this, she will be forever associated with her unique place in cinema history as the first Bond girl.

Eunice Gayson may have been 90 but Sylvia Trench is forever 34. Farewell beautiful lady, you could never be old.

Remember the traveler's insurance you could buy at the airport?

As I recall, the purchaser filled out a paper envelope, providing all the relevant information, placed in said envelope his or her check made payable to the insurance company, sealed the envelope and sent it through a slot.

Your favourite 80s New Wave singers now look like the angry guy at the end of the bar at the Legion:

I know I must be getting freakin' old because;

I've never considered myself as being doddery but recent experience has shown I'm wrong. My old man was doddery, even at my current age, put him in a supermarket & the old boy was lost.:D
Well,I've had the pleasure of my 24 year old daughter's company this past week & the speed at which she lives leaves me breathless. The confidence & ease she has with new technology is astounding.
The crunch came this lunchtime though. I haven't set foot in a fast food joint in at least 10 years, though I have used the drive thru occasionally on long drives. Since recent events found us in the vicinity of a Mcdo's & as my daughter was hungry, in we went. WTF !!!.....the place was packed with youngsters all under 30 & all the buzzing activity made me dizzy but the worst was that we had to order via large touch screens. By the time I had realized what was happening, my daughter had ordered at lightening speed & skillfully directed my bank card towards the slot..:D.....I felt very, very old & completely lost & had to admit I have become what I never wanted to be, a doddering fart & that old fella I see in the mirror may actually be me.
Fortunately the service was vintage as we had to wait 10 minutes for our order.

90s is old?

Still old-fashioned analog in Germany, mainly. ;)

Good example, happened to me some weeks ago:

Fielmann is an optician chain store and when you don't want to give your landline or mobilephone number, they still send you a postcard, when your order is ready for pick up. No problem.
