Pegasus horsehide - what it's like?

I think that must be relatively new? My jackets were made and shipped from France. I agree tho. It wouldn't bother me and I'm quite sure Kevin is on top of quality control. He's a very nice guy and super detail oriented. The jackets I had were as good if not better than anything else available.

What @Seb Lucas said, some of the best made leather jackets are being made in Korea. South Korea, that is. Don't know about the North.

I've had two HD Korea made jackets. Among the best I've handled.

For a product with outsourced production, I think the pricing is very ambitious. I wouldn't pay 1000 USD for a no-name leather Pegasus jacket made in South Korea with barely any information to be found online and no real renown in the industry. Can get a US-made Vanson or EU-made Aero for less. Can even get a Langlitz for that kind of money.

Don't get me wrong, I don't question South Korean quality. Point is that he outsourced there to spare costs and it has me scratching my head when someone outsources to keep production costs low and then asks the same or even more than people who pay wages by American or European standards. But ey, all those others use shoe leather, right?

Hey actually I'm sure you don't use anything made in China either, because I'm fairly sure that it is not the chinese factory worker who benefits the most from his or her work. There is probably some evil capitalist middle man taking all the profit.

Kidding aside, I don't really care who and where builds my stuff as long as I am satisfied with what I get for my money. Sometimes I just might support some local small companies, but only if their quality to price ratio is right for me.

You make a good point. Very often local companies cannot compete quality-wise or price-wise, so most of us, including me, have to compromise our principles and buy products made overseas, because we want that Iphone or because we cannot afford to buy the local stuff which is four times as expensive. However, in the case of Pegasus, for what I look for in a jacket, the company offers me nothing which said companies cannot compete with, both quality-wise and pricing-wise, so I have no reason to disregard these principles.

But this is just me and I completly respect it if you feel differently than me and believe Pegasus has something to offer which other companies cannot. After all, we all look for and care about different attributes and features in jackets. If their product is what you're looking for, go for it!

I already went for it. When my safari jacket arrives I will be sure to do my best to give an objective analysis what I think of their product. For me some of their designs are very unique (like Safari jacket that got my attention) and I think I will like their horsehide if it turns out to be as described earlier in this thread. Although, to be honest, I doubt I would have gone for it, if I didn't already have variety of jackets from Vanson, Aero, Schott and Thedi.

I'll be curious to get your thoughts. The car coat is also a cool hip length coat. I really like the Peg designs. They are unique as as I stated before the quality is on par with any other maker discussed here. The Korean outsourcing was likely born of necessity. I can't speak for Kevin but he used to be active here. Perhaps if he sees this thread he can comment.

I think that outsourcing might actually be the only way to make reasonable business out of small leather jacket company in central or northern Europe with our high taxation and extremely high labour costs.

Manufacturers like Aero and Vanson benefit from economy of scale and they have so much work in their hands that they can actually maintain their own factories and extensive staff. I can only assume that Pegasus Jackets is very small operation and they probably don't sell so many jackets per month.

Found the photos from my 2nd Pegasus D pocket from when I went to sell it on eBay. This is the wear on the left wrist/forearm after a being worn for about a week, wearing it in my car, to and from an office job. I'm left handed, the wear wasn't as pronounced on the right arm.

My first jacket from them had similar wear, but I was hoping it was a fluke when I ordered the second. Kevin from Pegasus said this was normal, but I was pretty unhappy with it.

I'd love to order from them again, but for me, their horsehide is out of the question. Maybe the steer next time.

I was lucky enough to get a pegasus d pocket from a very nice gent in this forum. I honestly think that this jacket is as good as any other of the top brands. The leather is very thick and I love the look of the d pocket design. The company is a welcome participant to the market. In my view, the more companies compete with each other constantly improving and developing their product is a win for the consumer.

That’s nothing. I must have rubbed a sleeve up against something that left odd, irregular marks right in the middle of a sleeve panel. People always ask about it, tell me I damaged the jacket. Whatever, I like the jacket. Quite a bit actually. Just have to keep adding character to it. I do agree that the speed and time in which it showed wear was a bit disconcerting at first.

Plenty of room for disagreement on something like this. Different strokes for different folks, and I'm psyched you are happy with yours. I gotta say, I love the design of those Pegasus D Pockets. Might be the favorite design I've ever worn. Tied for 1st anyways.

I'm all for "wear" on leather jackets. It's what makes them distinctive, gives them their character, what makes them looks so cool. But that said - not like this. As an analogy, I'm in my late 30s now, and I'm pretty happy with my appearance. In good shape, I watch what I eat, and am usually not too sore after I go do something stupid. Slightly deaf in one ear from a few too many rock concerts without ear plugs, and nearsighted from a life time of reading. But I'm cool with it, because hey, I've got almost 4 decades of wear and tear to account for where I'm at. Every scar and wrinkle tells a story, etc, etc.

But if I was 18 and looked and felt almost 40, I'd be pisssssssssssssed. That's kind how I felt buying a thousand dollar motorcycle jacket and having the top coat wear so quickly/easily, lol.

That smooth horsehide teminds me of the Horween stuff my Aero jacket is made off. Buttery soft and smooth.

I think your leather looks good, it's one of those that doesn't have too much character from the start but that will sure develop it once you wear it often (Which I think could be a problem because you have so maaaaany jackets). Never been a fan of epaulets though.
