Pegasus horsehide - what it's like?

I think your leather looks good, it's one of those that doesn't have too much character from the start but that will sure develop it once you wear it often (Which I think could be a problem because you have so maaaaany jackets). Never been a fan of epaulets though.

I thought about deleting the epaulets, as I am not a fan either, but then I decided that this style needs to have them. I feel I made the right decision.

That beautiful jacket will “age” quickly. Part of Pegasus’s charm.

I have a Pegasus jacket db aviator that I got about five years ago. It is a good jacket and the leather is good compared to some of the other jackets that I bought along the way. I don’t wear it now as I have lost a 26 kg over time. I liked wearing it for riding my motorcycle. This picture was from some time back.

Oh, that is a surprise to me, I always thought that they are a small home business with their own in house tailors? And suddenly it's made in Korea? Korea labour is not exactly cheap at the moment, on one hand, Made in Korea is certainly not bad, you can say it is at least not from Pakistan or China. On the other hand, if it is made in Korea, they should mention it on their product pages.

I think that outsourcing might actually be the only way to make reasonable business out of small leather jacket company in central or northern Europe with our high taxation and extremely high labour costs.
Manufacturers like Aero and Vanson benefit from economy of scale and they have so much work in their hands that they can actually maintain their own factories and extensive staff. I can only assume that Pegasus Jackets is very small operation and they probably don't sell so many jackets per month.

Outsourcing is one of the ways, not the only way. I am quite surprised that Pegasus would actually outsource it to the Far East (from a French perspective) and not within the EU, maybe Greece or eastern Europe. You mentioned Vanson here, they did tried El Salvador, didn't they? Is their plant still there or have they moved back to entirely US?

But if I was 18 and looked and felt almost 40, I'd be pisssssssssssssed. That's kind how I felt buying a thousand dollar motorcycle jacket and having the top coat wear so quickly/easily, lol.

Absolutely agree (well, unless you are Johnny Depp in his 20s'). I feel that there is an obsession here to age jackets quickly, and some makers are following the trend. Yes, we may want the look of creases and patina, but it is also part of fun too. What worries me is that, if some of these jackets are aging so quickly within a season, what would happen to them after a few years of wear and tear? If I spend a grand on a jacket, I want to make sure that it will last for a decade of wearing.

Agreed. The other issue with that type of wear is the high wear areas on the jacket look super worn, but the low wear areas still look like new. You don't end up with a jacket that looks like it's got an authentic aging/patina. You end up with what looks like a new jacket (because it is) with some areas where something screwed up must've presumably happened to it.

Better stick then with likes of LW horsehide and Vanson comp weight. Even Aero chooses (most) of their leathers so that they’ll age relatively fast.

It is authentic wear, just quicker. It’s a Pegasus. Not for everyone.

In my experience the entire jacket ages like all jackets age, just quicker. The opposite of LW, that wears like all jackets, just slower.

There are spots on my 50s CL that look much, much newer than other, usual wear areas. To me, that is normal. Authentic wear is not uniform. Some panels look almost new.

And I prefer Vanson and LW hides. I like to work for it too. I do get where you are coming from and agree to a certain point. Just not all the way. Cheers.

I'm definitely biased lol. Almost all the nice jackets I've owned have been Vansons, plus one LW Trojan I regret selling.

I am very curious if Pegasus's steer wears as quickly their HH though.

I hear you. I think this distressing thing gets out of hand ). I agree if I spend that much I want a garment that will be resilient over time not wear quickly. Distressed jackets are cool for an instant, make for interesting photos. But wearing them daily especially in some circles(esp professional/office) doesn't work always. As a proof you can see in classifieds that usually jackets in good shape sell reasonably fast. Despite countless posts where people claim that worn jackets have character.

Yeah if I pay $$ I prefer LW or Vanson. Never saw in reality a Langlitz but from the photos looks to me that they age/crease faster.
I have a couple of LW jackets. A Trojan included. Nice elegant jacket but not very practical. In winter not very comfortable as it's short and lets cold get through at waist. And then you start getting a chilling sweat... I don't know but for me the most wearable/practical jackets when cold are the cheapest ones: a G-1 and a cheap repro A-2.
