I recognized the old Herrs bldg coming in to the square. I used to play some pool in the old pool hall on South St.

Early 30s Stetson derby in mint condition from my back yard:

Sam'l Spiro & Co. was founded in 1891. I've found ads into the late 50s and one picture dated 1971 still showing the store marquee out front. The original building has been torn down, I believe some time in the 80s (still doing research). Retail shops now exist on the street level and a parking garage above. That particular address is now a diner. Haven't tried the food, but will now make it a point to go as I have walked by numerous times.

Early 1950s Mallory "Country Club". This was from an auction in Joplin, Missouri and the hat store was in Pittsburg, Kansas. The moth babies seemed to like it.

Coulter-McGuire's Mens Clothing (508-510 N. Broadway) opened in 1910 by O. E. Coulter and H. A. McGuire at 408 N. Broadway and sold men's items ranging from work clothes, suits, hats and gloves to men working in the mines, on the railroad or the many banks and businesses throughout the area. They moved to the location in the postcard in about 1930. O. E. Coulter retired in 1947 turning the business over to his sons Robert J. Coulter and Kenny Coulter. Kenny became sole ownership of the business upon the death of Robert in September of 1970. The interior was destroyed during a a fire in 1970 but was remodeled and reopened. The business closed in 1979.

Sold out of Kooi Knapper Men's Wear in Kalamazoo, MI.

The store was a part of the Kalamazoo mall, at the time of its opening in 1959, it was the first outdoor pedestrian mall in the U.S., although the store itself seems to have been open since 1947.

What a wonderful idea for a thread topic. Hats and the history of where they were sold is like looking back in time. Thanks to everyone that has posted pictures so far it’s very enjoyable.

This was the first hat for me after I found the Lounge. I didn't have much luck finding a pic of the store. Maybe @Hurricane Jack can find something.

Couldn't find any vintage pics. Those strip mall men's stores probably changed out every 2 yrs when the lease was up. Could only add current pics of the location.
