Maybe something along the lines of this? Is this a common bash? Thanks...

Jack,
What I would really do with a long beard, is get a wizard hat and stand along the road like that photo you posted. I don't know if that was really you in the Gandalf outfit but that still cracks me up whenever I think about it.
Wasn't really me. Comments seem to go in cycles. Although I no longer get Duck Dynasty comments I still get a lot of ZZ Top & Gandalf comments.

I have two Cattleman hats in size 59 one in Sand and one in Fawn. Neither ever really fit me right, so I removed the wire from, and stretched the Sand hat to an acceptable comfort level. The Fawn has hardly been worn or touched. But, I just got my first Campdraft in Taupe from Hats by the Hundred, and I am absolutely in LOVE. I can't believe how light and comfortable this thing is! I was smart this time and ordered it in a 60cm and it makes ALL the difference in the world. It was a lot of fun to steam and bash the hat exactly how I wanted it. I never felt like I looked very good in a fedora, but I am rockin' this one. Now I finally see what all the fuss is about with Campdrafts. I've been wearing it around the house like a kid at Christmas. I bought it to use as a fall/winter/spring hat since it is lined, but I can tell it's going to be really hard to give up for the hot months. If anyone is interested, I am going to put the Fawn Cattleman up for sale in the classifieds. Cheers!

That is a sharp hat! I always take the liners out of my hats anyway, and the Akubra liners are lightly hot glued in, and so can be removed without damaging the hat if you take your time. You can always tuck the liner back in for cold weather.

Enjoy your Campdraft!

There's a seller on eBay with a Campdraft in Taupe Fawn coloring. How does Taupe Fawn coloring compare to my Stylemaster Acorn Fawn??

My concern is that they'll look too similar to each other.

While I own Stylemasters and Camp Drafts, they are not in the colors you seek, so I cannot post a true side-by-side pic. My thought is that even a B/W pic of the two makes of hat side-by-side would show how different the shapes are. The straighter, taller crown and narrow ribbon of the Camp Draft looks very different than the lower, tapered crown and medium-width ribbon of the Stylemaster, IMO. But of course, you need to be the judge of that. If you’d like, I could post a B/W side-by-side pic later tonight to illustrate my thoughts on the shape differences. Might be enough info for you to make your decision. If your decision is focused on the color situation only, I humbly bow out.

I know exactly what you mean. There's just something right about the style. With the exception of two Fed IV's I've gotten, all of my customs (including my PB hemps) have been in this design ever ince my first BGCD. It just kind of set the standard for me.

Thanks for your help!!

My primary reason asking about the Campdraft was because the auction price was low enough to get me really curious.

I also reached out to the folks at Hats Direct regarding color similarities. They confirmed that the Taupe Fawn and Acorn Fawn are very very close in coloring.

It's too close for me to consider buying that particular Campdraft.

Thanks again!!

You obviously have not been hanging around here long enough or you wouldn't have hesitated based on already having a similar color. We could easily change the name of this forum to "We Buy Lots of Hats!". I have a CD in taupe and have handled a stylemaster in fawn and they are both similar to a pecan color to me.

SO I received my Campdraft yesterday. And for starters that was some fast shipping from Down Under to the Southern tip of the Polar Ice Cap known as Wisconsin. I have to say that for what you pay for its par none a winner in my book. I was quite pleased overall with look, feel and the fit...had some concerns but was happy that I didn't go overly large with this one as I ordered my regular size and it fits like a glove. If it snugs on me some, I do have a stretcher at the ready. NOW for the fun part..I opted to go with a combination of styles with this one. A diamond crease with a hard front pinch and some side and rear pinches that I call 'coffin nails'. Only gripe I have with my chosen design is the slight 'bump' from the hard crease thats seen on the side profile, but I think that's more me being picky than anything..Anyway I've included several photos for your perusal.

Thanks for the comments guys, first time creasing a hat, actually quite pleased with how it came out, and how relatively straightforward the process was. I thought about doing a more sloppy style diamond, but just wasn't feeling it with this one. And the hat is the Heritage model. It's nothing new to state, but dollar for hat value...its got to be one of the better deals going for a factory hat.
