Hats and Drinks - A Match Made in Heaven

New addition to my whiskey shelf - Macallan 12 (Speyside sherry oak cask).

After listening, reviews via the internet and friends, I picked up a what I understand is to be a standard for whiskey shelves - Macallan 12. Macallan advertises a ton. While they advertise a ton, this whiskey, IMO, is worthy of the advertising monies spent. Well done and easily approachable.

Seeking some personal down time this late afternoon, I have been sipping a dram while strolling around the property. I can taste the dried fruit or sherry cask influence. I enjoy that it is not sweet, very smooth- sippable and simple on the tongue. It now owns a spot on the shelf - well done Macallan.

Cheers. Later I will pour a dram of a more complex whiskey. It will be interesting to reflect on whether the pleasantness of the Macallan 12 holds its place on the whiskey shelf.

Best, Eric -
Nice review Eric. I agree, I always enjoyed the Sherry Cask series from Macallan. Hope you enjoyed your downtime this evening!

Excellent one, that is my Dram of Choice ! The Oloroso Sherry cask is their standard expression, the Fine Oak came much later. I can always pick up some malty vanilla flavors, and just a wonderful nose.

There are times when I may feel like a more complex Islay, but the Macallan is great anytime !!

I keep forgetting to post as an FYI, there has been no agreement as of yet that would avoid the tariffs that go into effect Jan 1. In anticipation of nothing being worked out, US liquor distributors are beginning to receive notice of sharp price increases that will take effect to offset the tariffs. New prices on French, Spanish & German wines are set. Announcements on Spirits are starting to come in now. Distributors will be passing increases thru to retailers.

Be prepared to bend over. Stock up as best you can between then & now.

May not be many more chances for nice weather to wear a Stetson One-hundred for a while. Sampled a new brown ale, PBJ (not for me), then my usual 2-Pulls.

Yesterday I was able to buy 2 bottles of Suntory Yamazaki 12 at a price no store locally would match. New vendor I've never bought from before so I'm keeping my fingers crossed until I get a shipping notice.

The 100 is a stunning hat.

Congrats on your excellent buy of Yamasaki 12. It is a grand Japanese whiskey.

Cheers, Eric

Thanks Eric.

I had a tasting sample a few yrs ago at Whiskeyfest. I hope I don't like it too much or I will go thru it too fast! I have an order confirmation & am hoping for a shipping confirmation today.

In shopping online I was also checking out prices on some of my regular buys of Scotch & Irish Whiskey. It would appear most have already taken the tariff price increase online. I track sales & pricing, & locally there has not been much on sale for a while. I'm going to be checking out a couple stores today or tomorrow looking to stock up favorites before the increases hit if they haven't already.

Man, that sucks. I'm going to try to go out to my local Total Wine and Spirits today at lunch to stock up.

Jack; That is similar to the info I got from my local liquor store owner. His face distorts when he talks about the tariff prices. He doesn't say out loud, but I can tell he expects to suffer when this comes at us in 2020. His advise, buy now as it does not spoil.

Like you folks I will head in later the coming weeks and see about adding to my whiskey library. After all this talking I may have to ask politely for another Yam.12 from his stock.

Crazy world. Best, Eric -
