That’s the spirit man!
Also, in my experience there is no bigger let down then the jacket that you think is going to be your “Be all and end all” piece. I was sure it would be my second Langlitz, or my Good Wear, or my LW CHP...
I am now happily cruising along with the knowledge that there will never be just one.

Interestingly I got in with the idea of having a collection. There were never one grail but a whole lot of them :D
I know I am repeating myself in this, but I keep getting this idea confirmed regularly

Yes, I recall you saying that before and I marvel at your level of awareness. I certainly slid down the slippery slope of jacket addiction by telling myself that I was on a quest for the one. And like you I now have many.

That has been my path. For many years I was perfectly happy with a few Harley jackets and a Vanson Model E. Blissfully unaware of the available options, even within Vanson’s offerings. Forget about vintage jackets. I didn’t know, and worse, didn’t care. Who wants an old, smelly, worn piece of leather? Not me. Years like this. Then I looked into Vanson, don’t even remember why, and got hooked. A few Vanson later and I’m content. Then I find blogs, social media and start saving photos of leather jackets. Secretly. I’m afraid I have some sort of fetish. Bam, find this place. Put a fork in me, it’s over. You know the rest.

I'm the same, i have been collecting things for as long as i can remember.
Rocks, coins, stamps, cards, fishing lures, tools, bass guitars, leather jackets, there was always something, at every points of my life i had a collection going on.
When i first joined TFL i started with the idea that i was looking for "the one", because that was what was done, and i didn't know yet that jackets were going to be the next thing for me...
Then i discovered people like Terry and Mysterio and realized i was on a slippery slope, there were just too many nice/interresting jackets around for me to have only one.
Now i am not even sure how many jackets i have...
Actually wouldn't say that i got in with the the intention of starting a collection, but it didn't take long for that door to open.

I do think and I am talking for myself that this is an addiction, a real one.

It happens with vintage clothes too! The search for that unique jacket, that special pair of trousers or full suit is a never ending one.

It's a bona fide addiction. Sometimes I'll just at random spend 2 hours at a time browsing eBay, Grailed, Etsy, looking for a jacket because in the back of my mind, something is telling me that continuation of my life isn't possible with out. It's like I have to get a jacket because otherwise, I won't be able to get anything else ever done without it. Of course I know it's all nonsense but it's still odd and make me wonder where these thoughts are coming from and what possible use could they have.

On the other hand, when I do buy something I truly wanted, I can be happy for a very long time and if I'm not losing much money in the process while keeping the addiction in some kind of check, I can't say it's harming my life in any way, at least not at this point. If I wasn't staring at eBay, I'd waste those two hours on something else that's equally stupid...

At this moment I have around 450 folders of the photos of the leather jackets I bought over the years and I know I only kept the photos of the jackets that I thought were awesome. If I was a collector, that's the amount of jackets I would right now have in my apartment.

Right now I am working on a revolutionary new system to battle against buying random crap. XD
It works in a way that no matter how much I like a certain jacket, I won't buy it if it's got just one detail I don't like.

I do the same. My technique to avoid purchases is to convince myself I have that style covered. I don’t “need” it. Works ok. I also look at my boy’s school invoices, that sometimes makes me reconsider.

I go through phases. I’m sure other users here have noticed that I’ve gone missing from the forum for months at a a time. I can quite easily turn off the drive and tell myself no. I won’t check eBay, grailed, won’t be on here..I just turn it off. But and the big but of the issue is, all it takes is the slightest provocation to get sucked right back in. A well placed FB ad, a thought I can check out TFL it’s been a while, seeing a nice jacket out in the wild, and next thing I know I’m checking out jackets for 4 hours and plotting my next move and purchase. So I know I’m better at handling it than a lot around here, but on the other hand I’m not completely in control if that’s all it takes to send me down the rabbit hole.
