I wanted to try out some flat brim hats so I ordered a stiff, wool blend, teardrop pinch to see if I like the style from this company called Yellow108. They do recycled material and all that. Anyway, I try and support some of the smaller guys, especially when US based. I'll let you know once it comes (supposedly tomorrow).
But the motherload is on the way from hatsdirect. 2 Federation IV and a Snowy River. I got Akubra fever lol. There's this YT video where this woman shows all her Akubra hats. At first I was like why you need so many hats LOL. I think my collection will be bigger than hers once I get this shipment. Like Einstein says, "It's all relative, baby!"

I hadn't heard of them before reading your post, so I took a look. I can't say I'm a big fan of wool felt hats because I've never had particularly good luck with them, so I'll be very interested in reading your review/opinions. Maybe I should start with a cap...
Akubra has their fans here among those who don't care for them. I like mine, and I think everyone should own at least one they can use as a "foul weather" hat so they can leave their more valuable/irreplaceable vintage hats safe at home. As for the "collection", yeah, a lot of us start out that way and you'll be surprised by how quickly your thoughts go from "I think I'll start wearing hats..." to "How did this happen? Where am I going to keep all of these?"

yeah, the wool thing is mostly just to try the flat brim style. With Covid, I haven't been getting out much, and Los Angeles doesn't really have a lot of higher end hat shops near me (other than the much discussed Nick Fouquet
I've got a Gallatin from Stetson that I love how it fits my head and face. I got no shame in wearing it, wool be damned, but clearly from a build quality, overall quality, etc. sure it ain't going to take a licking and keep on ticking. BUt then again, we don't have harsh weather out here, so I'll get plenty mileage on it.
Anyway, my style is more borderline outback edging into less formal fedora. So I reckon Bushman/Temple-esque. BUt I got a Stylemaster and a few hats from the JJ Hat Center line that are more on the formal side. Like you said, the collection is growing and I'm sure I'll refine my tastes more.

Now you've done it--you invoked the name "Nick Fouquet". Among the members here, he probably has fewer fans than I can count on the fingers on one hand. Other than his shop, the only one I can think of in the Los Angeles area is Baron Hats which, from what I've seen, amounts to self promotion equal to a huge steaming pile of manure 'cause they claim to have made every hat ever used in a television or cinematic production, then do a half-assed job of replicating them at a 300-1200% profit that is completely unwarranted....I haven't been getting out much, and Los Angeles doesn't really have a lot of higher end hat shops near me (other than the much discussed Nick Fouquet
I have yet to acquire a Stetson for myself. Some folks here like them, others don't. Even those that like them will usually admit their quality is...let's say "uneven". Still, there could be a felt Stratoliner in my future if the right hat comes along at the right time for the right price.
At least you know what you like. I've only been wearing hats regularly for about 12 years now, and to my surprise my own tastes are still evolving. My first real hat was a dark brown Akubra Fed IV, and now I'm up to 14 or 15 brimmed hats, probably that many flat caps, a couple of straw hats, a few ball caps; you get the idea. More than most people have, but not even in the running around here.

I've got a few wool lite felt hats for really nasty weather. Akubra Stylemaster, Stetson Whippet & Stetson Roadster are my "dressier" hats. Probably have around 10 hats total. Add in 3-4 caps. All of them tend to rotate in & out of rotation depending on my mood and the weather.
My Akubra Banjo Patterson is my hiking and yard work hat. It takes any weather and still looks new.
Slowly, I seem to be migrating to outback style vs Fedora. Only because I get compliments on my hats when I wear them with the brims down.

What Jim said; a security device to prevent you from just walking out with the hat. This type is better than the previous one they used, which was a pin type of device which they shot through the brim (yikes). The little holes that left did brush out, but it did take a while.
