They call these their “engineer boots,” which they used to make and sell on their own but then for several years made them for LL Bean. I am pretty sure they are out of production now, but many close-to-new pairs show up on the ebay, for anywhere from about $60 to $120. What size are you in most boots?
I'm a 12 in US size, a 11.5 in Redwing Iron Ranger. I'll take a look online although I don't need anymore boots (or jackets :()

Here’s a size 12 on the ebay now. Price is at the upper end but I bet they would take a lower offer. When new the leather seems very drab, but after a few months of wear (and no treatment!) it starts looking good. My last pair I wore several times a week for over ten years! They looked ideal at about the 6 year mark..

Love this. Thanks for sharing. Which soles are better the half or full soles?
Jin,
I think I prefer the full sole. The half sole definitely looks very cool but I like the bit of extra cushion you get from two layers of rubber at the heel on the full sole. I also think it is more durable because the backside of the front half sole is glued and nailed down but I think sooner or later it will begin to peel up.

I’m really looking at the Mr Lou’s (or possibly the Boss in Tan). Any pics on foot or thoughts you’d share? Searched the thread and didn’t see any other posts about them

Edit: whoops had a fragment of a username in the search bar messing up results. Still combing through all the results.

Here is a comparison thread I did of these over in the General section. I realize some of us rarely ever see that forum so here it is: https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/comparison-wesco-mr-lou-to-john-lofgren-engineer.102418/

Also these Mr Lou's have only been tried on for me. I'll put them back on tomorrow and take some on-foot photos in the daylinght. I think the tan or brown would also looks very nice, however mine are all black.

Thanks man @El Marro. I agree the half sole definitely looks the part as more of a classic engineer boot look. I've only had full soles on my boots mostly for aesthetics as I mostly wear service boots/lace to toe boots. I'll keep looking at these engineers! When I get one though it will definitely have an unstructured toe box, those wear/crease points on your boots look so good. I'm sure they feel comfortable too. Thanks again

Yep another rabbit hole! The brown dress leather is quite supple though the soles definitely need some break in. I went with a lightish built (single sole/soft toe) but they are still some though mfs. I only wish they’d offer them without storm welt so the sole would be closer to the uppers.

First venture into the PNW makers: whites bounty hunters in brown dress bought through Baker’s

They look a bit tight across the tongue, were you trying them out with thicker socks or a looser lacing to help with the break in?

brown dress is a such a great leather. In retrospect I sorta wish I had gotten Horsehide for my black pair of Semi Dress, but I’m still very happy.

Congrats on the new venture!
