Borsalino Caesar Qualtia Speciale - Coffin Hat
Monlov with Bulgaro ribbon
4 inch crown as shaped
1 1/2 dark brown (Bulgaro) grosgrain ribbon
1 7/8 brim with double stitched overwelt

A Borsalino coffin hat at a price I could not pass up. This one a short brim Caesar Qualtia Speciale. The felt is a sort of grayish Milk chocolate brown called Monlov which I have seen described as taupe. Depending on light it shifts between greys and browns. 1 1/2 ribbon Bulgaro Chocolate brown ribbon. The manufacturing label points to late 1960s to mid 1970s. This one arrived extremely misshapen.. but managed to massage it into decent shape.

Another one that’s a bit too big for me
Churchill with Cavanagh Edge 7 3/8 Long Oval

1960s era Churchill Fedora

Size 7 3/8 Extra Long Oval

Cream Tan Felt

5 inch crown

2 inch dark tan grosgrain ribbon

2 inch brim with Cavanagh edge

Beautifully colored 1960s vintage Churchill fedora. The felt is a lovely light cream caramel tan color with perfectly contrasting dark caramel grosgrain ribbon. With a similar colored feather. The sweatband and liner are black with gold embossed Churchill Ltd logo. The leather sweat is in good shape. It has a nice tall 5 inch crown and 2 inch wide ribbon. The two inch brim is adorned with a wonderful Cavanagh felted edge.

The felt is very clean. It does have a few small moth nibbles here and there but nothing that stands out significantly.

Churchill Ltd was a brand of hats in the late 1940s and 1950s. The line was purchased by Resistol in the 50s.

On the fifth day of Stingymas, my true love gave to me (or more accurately, let me have, but I digress)... Five Stingy Back Bows
1f3bc.png
1f619.png

Oh darn, I only have 4 of this style! Have to remedy that soon. I do have an affinity for these late 1950s slim brim hats. I like that they can be dated to the period 1955-1959. The list includes, two Lee hats, a brown Jet model and gray Smart Lee. A Stetson Royal Deluxe pork pie style, and a Mallory Aristocrat. Since all major makers produced this style in the late 50s a suitable Portis, Knox or Dobbs should not be hard to find. The five golden rings!

Found this in the crawl space today. An early e-bay purchase. Seller said it was fir felt. It’s wool. But it is a nice shaped stingy. Top stain was there when I bought it.

Thought about getting a rabbit made with the same dimensions but I rarely wear stingies.

On the 6th day of StingyMas....

Borsalino Colombo - Mogano
Velvety Velour like Texture
5 inch Crown with corded band
1 3/4 brim with double stitched over welt

A bit cooler weather here today called out for the Borsalino Columbia. What this little hat lacks in brim at 1 3/4 it makes up for in pet-ably soft velvety velour like texture in a beautiful dark chocolate brown. The crown checks in at 5 inches as shaped.

Nice Tyrolean hat. I have wanted a nice one for a few years now. Love Octoberfest and think it would be a great, simple bushcraft hat.
Wear it in good health

The sixth day? I’m late again, but deliberately donned a dinky Dobbs. Unique factory bash on this one! View attachment 290861 View attachment 290862 View attachment 290863 View attachment 290864
Way to be a player Charlie! Kind of a French Connection Popeye look. Love it.

Classic look of the early 1960s in Europe. All the cool folks wore hats like this. You definitely look cool in this one.

Day six of Stingymas. When is a stingy not really a stingy? During the later 1950s, brims started to slim down, a 2" size became quite popular. We now consider them a "stingy", but looking at the hat, it still has Fedora lines and construction. I consider a stingy one of those 1965 1 1/2 plaid "Tom Landry" hats. A prime example is this lat 1950s Dobbs Twenty. Great felt, classic lines and a Guild Edge (Cavanagh edge). Does not look like a stingy on the head, IMHO.

Love this hat, and I agree that it’s a fedora with a stingy(ish) brim rather than a typical stingy...I wrote that and even I’m not sure it makes sense ;)
