"Bang" a Brit series set in Wales.....AND the dialogue is largely is Welsh. It is just ok, a boilerplate plot and no character in the entire thing that evokes any sympathy whatsoever....but the scenery and the language was interesting.

"Midnight Mass" - Whoa... and double whoa! Too much to go over here but this Netflix original limited series... blew my mind. Something pretty hard to do since it's covered in barnacles. Any discussion of this show would/could lead to spoilers and I don't want that. Not much gore... few jump scares so it's not "traditional modern horror". But lord does this series make you think! Slow to start, but like a snowball rolling down a hill it picks up steam and mass as it goes along. Puddin' and I were crying like babes by the end. Watch it, you'll thank me.

"Squid Game" - My son started watching this when he was over on Tuesday. I'd heard so much buzz about it that Puddin' and I decided to "give it a go". Like Netflix's other current bombshell "Midnight Mass", this one had us riveted and hooked from the start. You might not want to watch it if you used to play a lot of kid games as a child. No spoilers other than this one is bleak and bloody but once you're in... you're IN! Kinda like the Squid Game itself.

You would highly recommend Midnight Mass?

My girls have binged the Squid thing. I will pass, sounds like an adult Hunger Games!

Yes... I recommend Midnight Mass wholeheartedly to anyone save religious zealots of any stripe. Squid Game is far more than just Hunger Games for adults.... on MOST levels. There are some villains at the end we really could've done without but other than that I never felt like I was watching something childish. And the HG never felt like there were any real stakes involved. SG does....

Age warning on MM? Daughters are 13 and 15. Again, they watched the Squid thing, so an idea of where their tolerance is!

Prime offering from Britain 2015..."The Village". Two seasons, period drama with the usual Brit brilliance. A wonderful change of pace from the usual murder and mayhem.
Funny you say that... Just perusing a lot of model British TV it seems like the whole island is awash in murder AND mayhem. Sheeya... I'm glad I'm not the only person to notice this. For a while it seemed you could walk the entire English countryside just going from body to body....

If they watched SG they can watch MM. No curse words they probably haven't heard already a thousand times. But there is a religious and moral side to it and I don't know how religious you and yours are. No sex or nudity in it, certainly less sex than SQ. So no problems on that front.

Sad to have completed the 2 seasons of The Village. It was initially designed as a 7 season story arc but cancelled after 2. Too bad as it was wonderful and highly rated by critics and awards shows. Perhaps it did not garner enough viewers without the requisite sex and ultra violence. Our loss.

Well, daddy is a serving naval JAG officer with the salty lingo that comes with, and we are as religious as your average Presbyterians, being as we are, well, Presbyterians, so I am going to say we will give this a go!

Some of the Agatha Christie Marple episodes, and the two Sally Lockhart mysteries. Still enjoying the Michael Gambon version of Maigret. We noticed our shows of choice are alliterative: Monk, Murdoch, Maigret, Murder (She Wrote).
Not to mention beginning a revisit of the Mary Tyler Moore series...

Recently binged a few things, as well as the below. (Binge mode is now my default; the only things I watch week to week anymore are Drag Race UK and Walking Dead World's End, purely because those are only available weekly!). Enjoyed the 'Haunting of Bly House' miniseries, now started on 'Haunting of Hill House'. Not the best things I've ever seen, but certainly engaging and entertaining.

I liked it a lot myself. I did find a wry amusement in the atheist's idea of "what happens when we die" being vastly more twee than any religious conception of death I've ever encountered! Overall, I think it was to a very high standard indeed. I could have lived without some of the monologues and perhaps a shorter overall runtime might have made it tighter, but all done and said I enjoyed it very much, and I particularly liked that not everything was neatly explained away. There's room there for a sequel or prequel story set in the same universe should they wish it. Really lovely to see something so mainstream that dealt with religious themes so well without being an insult to anyone's intelligence, overly 'safe', or browbeating the viewer with a particular take on it all. Encouraging to see Netflix putting its money into this kind of thing.

Figured Hallowe'en is a good time to revisit Penny Dreadful via my blu-ray collection. Just finished series one, and it is as brilliant as I remember.

Watched the first episode recently - we downloaded it for a few quid from Prime. Enjoyed it very much; now waiting for it to arrive on Netflix UK (which it is due to at some point over the next few months) to see the rest.

Also enjoyed this one a lot. For all its lack of Zombies (and relative lack of gore), the 'state of the world' allegory reminded me a lot of George Romero's finest works. Looking forward to a second series.

Hunger Games is a good reference point. Somewhere between that and Battle Royale (which was, of course, an acknowledge influence on HG), except with adult participants, which puts a really interesting slant on it.

Nearing the end of the third and final series of Penny Dreadful. I have had the blu-rays since they came out, but believe this is the first time I have rewatched the third season since watching it live.

Not my favourite season at all, one character lead (new to the series) I cannot stand, but overall still very engaging.

All three iterations of the "Berserk" anime. Watched the early 2000 version first (best looking of them all) that consisted of 3 movies. Then we went back to the 1997 24 episode anime and we just started the 2016 version... Puddin' doesn't like anime because of the eyes (you know what I mean) but since Berserk is a little more grounded and less Waifu she got into it. She's now in love with BOTH Griffith AND Guts... Umbriago! These are the conditions that prevail!

Working on the 15th and final season of Suoernatural with the girls. Almost caught up to where the wife and I had watched it live.

I am working on Gotham, a reviewing, as my wife gave the series collection on blu-ray last Christmas. Just enough time has passed since watching it live that it is fresh again.
