A complete hail Mary on the size and hat arrives a 7 3/8 : )

Around 25% of sweat's stitching undone but rest solidly in place. Sweat is sturdy and supple but still, I'm not folding out to check for lot# ha .. I did spy hand written upon, red multi celled tag though. Sweat "V" stitched .. not sure where to put hat's manufacture date. Owner conveyed to me hat was found in the Rochester attic of a recently passed 95 yo woman .. hat belonged to her uncle.

Happy to be it's caretaker for a while.

I bought this hat recently at auction. I paid more for it than any previous vintage hat and I was really worried I over paid.

The sweatband is a replacement and there is some wear on the binding, but it’s a glorious hat. The brim is approximately 4 1/2” wide before the curl. The nine cord ribbon is a bonus. I love everything about this hat other than the size.

Great hat Brent! I bet you were very happy to see the "unknown maker" revealed (or had the auction house got back to you on that?). Did you expect any other size? ;)

All I had to go on were those horrible photos, so yes, I’m very relieved it turned out to be a Stetson. I’m just glad it’s a size that starts with a “7,” but you’re right: 7 1/8 strikes again. :)

That’s a killer Brent! Don’t know if I can recall that block # either, which is hard to do for these 7”+ crown bad boys. She’s an absolute beaut!

Very cool old Stetson Brent.
Not sure i’ve ever seen a 9 cord ribbon.
Since the orig sweat is history it might be a good candidate for an upsize to fit you. Should still have plenty of brim left. I don’t think the hat Gods would banish you from the lounge.
Perfect hat for those trout streams you have.
Just sayin....cool hat.

Here's a "Real Nutria Fur" I've been wearing on occasion. Originally sold here in Arizona. Definitely pre 40's just not exactly sure when it was made. I find the sweatband to be very interesting as it appears that the leather is almost "rolled" over the reed. I cant say I've seen this before. Its a very rounded edge to the sweatband. This also features understitching like an Arminto.

Most recent acquisition. Beautifully embossed sweat, crisp graphics on the liner with the red accent matching the bow and with what I assume is a period correct Box with great lettering. Based on the lot number (7628) late 30’s early 40’s? Proud to have this in my growing collection.

That’s a beauty. I love homburgs and they don’t come much better than that.

This is the western hats thread (no harm done) so please also add it in the dress hats or the homburg nation thread(s).

Stetson, I'm estimating ca. 1940. "The Ray Bell" hat just purchased from Jesse John. Don't see a Lot Number on the sweatband. 4 inch brim, 6 1/4 inch open crown according to mfg tag. These dimensions match Stetson's Armintall model hat.

More photos from the post about the Ray Bell hat on FL in May, plus an article I found online about his life. First pics show how covered with mold and mildew it was when found in a hoarder's basement.

Stetson Number 1 Quality Lot Number 6477, which I estimate dates ca 1932-33. 4 1/2 inch brim, 7 inch open crown. The felt has a beautiful feel. I would have guessed it was a higher grade hat, the felt is so nice.

Here's another Ray Bell picture postcard I ran across, of Ray riding the bronco "Sam Jackson" at the Pendleton. Oregon Roundup.

Stetson Number 1 Quality. 3 1/4 inch brim and 6 1/2 inch open crown. The seller called it a 1930's Arminto. It has 1/4 inch binding on only the bottom edge. Has Block Number 643, which is the same block as Jesse John's black Boss Raw Edge shown higher up on this page. Jesse also described his hat as apparently having a similar edge treatment. My hat came with a replaced sweatband and a photo by seller of the original one. Since this hat has the later, smaller mfg tag, I estimate the hat dates about 1935 to 1940.

I just noticed that this Stetson came from N. Porter, the same place as Jesse John's Boss Raw Edge on this page

"The Buckaroo" made by Stetson. On the Waiting For thread I had wrongly thought this hat was made for Miller Hats of Denver. 3 inch brim, 5 1/2 inch open crown. I found a virtual twin of this hat that TheGuitarFairy posted on the New Hats thread, including the same type white Stetson mfg tag and the exact same Block Number. Both hats seem to have replacement sweatbands. At least mine does. I'm not familiar with the type/style of size tag on my hat. I bought a second Buckaroo hat to compare with the first, but the second one is up in Canada and the seller is taking their sweet time sending it to me.
