Mallory Coast to Coast

0094452A-0102-4B31-B326-B2D7B608AB84.jpeg

Mallory Coast to Coast - Dark Grey Brown
4 3/4 - 3 7/8 rakish crown
1 5/8 pewter grosgrain ribbon
2 3/8 brim with 3/8 bound edge

Mallory Coast to Coast with a fairly dark grey brown felt. Having seen Jim’s @Frunobulax C2C I knew I wouldn’t go wrong with this buy. This I believe would be later 50s considering the card stock size tag and slightly shorter brim at 2 3/8. The dark taupe felt is offset ever so slightly with a 1 5/8 pewter grosgrain ribbon and brim binding. The crown still sports what appears to be its factory tear drop and rakish crease. Mallory are among my favorites and I do have a few with similar (Whippet-ish) styling but none with the C2C designation or this coloring so this will fit in nicely. This hat has the “Aristocrat Quality“ designation as do most of my Mallory fedoras. I have one or two in “Premier Quality“ but I can’t discern any real differences in the quality.

This hat came in fairly crisp condition.. only needed a little brushing to remove a bit of dust.

@MikeinRome , beautiful hat! It has what I've called the "tombstone mark". I narrowed down the years that mark was advertised somewhere in this thread. If you search the thread for tombstone you should come up with that post. If I had a good memory, I would quote you the year span, but my memory isn't that good.

A great old Mallory Primo velour. The union label puts it before 1934 if my understanding is correct. No moth damage or stains and the thin leather sweatband is supple. The raw edge brim is 2 ¼” wide and the open measures approximately 5 ¾ inches. The size is 7 US or 56cm.

The velour is nice and soft, but it’s not as luxurious as an old Hückel or similar.

This hat is destined for eBay unless someone here claims it for their own.

Wow, what a hat! I like the insides most.
One of them that needs to be worn inside out! :)

This is a wonderful hat... as you describe, not velour of the European style, but very supple high quality felt from a historic Danbury CT company. Adding a couple of photos of Jim Ballard's shop on 14th St. in Oakland, CA where the hat was sold.

Mallory roll-up fedora complete with cardboard tube w/cap. The unlined hat is very light and the in-reeded sweatband is soft and supple. This is some of the lightest felt I’ve handled. The raw edge brim is 2 ⅝” wide and the open crown measures appropriately 5 ⅜ inches. The felt is easily (too easily?) shaped. The size is 6 ⅞ and I suspect the hat is from the 1940s (the crown print has the 1823 date).

This hat is way too small for me so feel free to send me a PM if you’re interested. It’s going on eBay in a day or two.

That is one very cool and unusual hat. Don’t think I’ve seen one like it from Mallory. I also like that the storage tube is in the same styling of the Mallory hat boxes of that era. Very tempting indeed!
