Hello,
I'm new to this discussion and could use some help, please. I have what looks to be one of the "Brando" jackets (Durable brand). It's been in my storage for quite a while and leather jackets don't really suit me. Members in this forum seem to be passionate about it, and I'm searching to find a dollar value for it. It's overall condition isn't too bad, but there are a couple large tears in it. If anyone have a ballpark number I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

It’s worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. If the rips are the thread rather than the leather panels then it is less of an issue, unless the thread is rotted. However, the reason the durable jackets on this thread are so valued is that they are (probably) THE Brando jacket. If you compare yours you will see it is a similar but different model (note the separate hem). As such its value is as a vintage horsehide cross-zip jacket in need of significant repairs, rather than as an original Brando jacket in need of significant repairs, if that makes sense.

I think the key is whether the rip is caused by a rotten thread. I have a 1950s jacket whose seams are literally falling apart and splitting everywhere just by putting it on - because the thread is rotten. The jacket needs a total rebuild, which is prohibitively expensive. If the thread is rotten in your case, the value of your jacket will be significantly depressed. Having said all that, your jacket is a Durable. People may go to great lengths to restore it. But they won't pay top dollar for it. This absolute wreck of a Durable went for $1500/offer. Draw your own conclusions.

I could be willing to buy it it if you can repair that thread (hoping that it’s just the thread). It’s not the “Brando” model but it’s a beautiful Durable!

Durable? Unlabeled, but even the back is painted BRMC. No top two lapel snaps. The kidney panel is straight, not curved. Main zipper was replaced with YKK.

I watched both the Wild One (1953) and Bikeriders (2023) recently. The Durable leather jackets in the Wild One look so cool and of high quality, whereas there was nothing special about the leather jackets worn in the Bikeriders (most were Schott I believe). Watching the Bikeriders was a disappointing experience tbh.

That said, while both of the movies look great, if I'm being honest, they are both a little hokey for different reasons.

Have you ever seen The Loveless? Another movie that's great to look at but a little lacking in story.

This movie was great. Felt like almost a dark comedy at times. I couldn’t get though the wild ones as someone born after 1990

If you’re like me and prefer watching video, instead of looking pictures, of leather jackets, Jon posted a video showing the 4 Durable leather jackets he owns. I can see the thickness of the leather and how it behaves with movement clearer on a video than with pictures. I especially like the demonstration of the hero cut and the armpit gusset, it’s so novel and useful for a tapered look.

That Durable with the mouton collar looks perfect on @jeo ! If you’d ever want to get rid of the 38 (last jacket in the video), please holla at me.

Talking about jackets (and not about the movie) Tom Hardy was wearing an Hercules and imho it was absolutely perfect

I have. I think Stallone wore a Durable in that film. It was up for auction 10 years ago.
