Looks like your Maverick is finally showing signs of reasonable seasoning since your first posting. You must wear the heck out of this jacket to get it to look this good in such a short time. When did you obtain this? I got mine in 2019 and it doesn't look nearly as grainy as yours. I find the Maverick is the pinnacle of Type III jackets in the affordable range.

Thanks man! I agree it it looking much better in a pretty short amount of time. I have worn it quite a lot (maybe 4 days a week) since I got it two months ago. I like the Maverick better than most other Type III models I've seen, regardless of price range. And I searched for a looooong time before going to Vanson. Honestly, the only one I'd consider an upgrade would be a Taubers. Most, if not all, modern Type III are too long and/or too slim. They should be short and with a nice taper imo. The Maverick does that. It shouldn't be that hard to achieve but somehow 99 % fail at that.

This older Balmain jacket goes against the Fedora Lounge grain, no pun intended, but for me is where my appreciation for leather jackets started 5 years ago. It's 100% a fashion jacket, and yet makes me feel like a rockstar whenever I wear it. For sure the sleeves are too short, but otherwise I love the fit. Though the dark navy calf skin has developed nicely and wears comfortably after 15+ years, it's definitely lighter/thinner than I'd ever look for now. The reinforced piping/stitching panel over the shoulders is purely cosmetic as the last place you'd ever want to wear this jacket is on the bike or any rough wearing context, but I do love the detail. Personally I've never seen it anywhere else, and it certainly pays hommage to the aesthetic that you'd also find on skinny "biker" jeans thigh and knee panels. Can anyone point me to other jackets or makers that have used panels like what I've included in the last picture? I wonder if a custom maker like Johnson Leathers could replicate it in a lighter weight, say 2 oz, horsehide. In wearing and posting this jacket thought I'd share my "origin" story if you will. Any thoughts?

Cheers
