no the big D pocket they did.
Oh I forgot about that one. The leather will be stiff for a while but that's a nice jacket.

Hey folks, does anyone know when y2 released their indigo type 2 Hh ? I’ve come across a good condition one with brown lining and orange stitches and I wonder when it was made. The leather is very supple, the jacket itself is light, slightly bellow 3lbs

I can’t get over the y2 leather type 2 that arrived yesterday. Second hand, from their earlier brown lining batches. Love how the indigo lights up in the sun.
It hasn’t started fading yet. Leather is supple and soft. Reminds me of the shinki collar I had on a rmc roughout i sold months ago.

I’d been considering the D pocket in natural saddle horse leather, but reading this thread has talked me out of it. My wallet thanks this thread for its existence!

In what way has this thread talked you out of it?

How Y2’s construction is not up to par as other JP brands (eg FW, RC, RMC) and American brands, while its price doesn’t reflect that. Also, the tube-like body of Y2 jacket isn’t what I’d want in terms of fit. Interesting leather doesn’t carry that much weight if I’m critical of Y2’s price, construction, and fit. I’m in the US, and have size 38 chest, so I have access to a lot of other options including JP’s second-handed market.

Agreed on „tube-like” body (as in boxy with very little taper): although this is of course subject to your own body type (it sure works for me).

Strong disagreement on construction. I see absolutely zero difference between Y2 and RMC/FW in this regard.

Prices at Y2 vary, depending on choice of hide. To me, that’s absolutely fair, as you (only) pay an upcharge on special hides whereas FW has always been absurdly expensive and RMC has become so in the last couple of years.
The saddle-horse Double-Rider is absolutely worth the price, IMO.

I sold my Y’2 D-picket but I am looking to buy it again. The tube like stiffness really change the more you wear it, more so than some of the other jackets.

I think workmanship is highly regarded. I would have to agree with that having owned several Y’2 jackets, Flat Head, RMC, Aero, Schott.

I think the unique feature of the Y’2 S-pocket is how shiny the leather is, which can be very attractive if that is what you like.

I like that Y2 do some interesting leathers in the trucker style
I’ve got the roughout and the olive HH

Sort of agree if I was looking for a D pocket I would probably consider other brands.

I wish more companies did interesting trucker style leather jackets other than black.

Warehouse & Co. has done some type-I leather jackets in non-black colors. It’s more of a denim heritage brand, but their quality is still very good when it comes to leather jackets.

Interesting. That's not the impression that I got at all. On the contrary - seems like Y'2 is one of the best value options in the JP market and the construction is fully on par with the grossly overpriced RMC stuff. The tube or boxy shape is nothing out of the ordinary - most JP brands seem to follow this pattern trend. Simmons Bilt in UK as well for example. Y2 does seem to have nice wide shoulders though from what I've seen, can't say the same about all JP brands. And I wouldn't expect much taper in most of their models anyway - like the Type 1, Type 2 and car coats.
The single riders do seem to have some taper, definitely not straight down:

Their double riders could probably use some more taper, but they do seem to be rather nicely cropped.
Boxy cropped is also a fine look, depends on your body though. Would look awful on me.
Here are a few shots I got from one guy who had both the Double Helix Innovator and the HR-55:

I've never had anything from Y2 but soon I'll have one to make my own impression. Overall they have been the most attractive JP brand to me personally, largely due to the influence of The Shop Vancouver and TJ. Black Bear Brand also chose to do collaborations with Y2.

I have 0 interest in RMC. Same with RC.

Double Helix Works is much more interesting, similar to Y2 in some aspects. @58panheadfan has some fantastic stuff from them, I think his Frisco is simply incredible.

Haven't seen anything that would really catch my eye from FW.
Sure they have the flashy San Mateo, Centinela and La Brea but I wouldn't go for those personally. I'd go for one of their car coats (Brakeman, Switchyard, Trackwalker, Journeyman,) before anything else, that's for sure. Again @58panheadfan looking at you.
They don't even specialize in leather jackets. They do have a LOT of interesting cloth items though.

FH have a very nice D-pocket, this reel from @jeo really sold me on that one : https://www.instagram.com/leatherjacketjawn/reel/DHZUt6JPGfr/

Tenjin Works have some sweet stuff, especially if you're into the natural veg tan stuff.

Thanks for the detailed post. You reminded me to check out Tenjin’s D pocket in natural cow/kip for half the price of Y’2’s marked up price for natural horse.

How much did you have to pay for customs to get that jacket to the US?

Had to get it to EU, so it was 19% VAT and 3 % customs. But then, there are only very few jacket brands in the EU itself, so this is part and parcel of the process.
