Dating HCA Hats: Commonalities
Dating Hat Corporation of America Hats, 1932—1972, through their commonalites in manufacture
Awesome hat regardless of decade!
That mfg tag says 1940's to me.
Literally just got this in and wanted to document it before the refurb began. It was advertised as a Knox Beaver Fur Hat and sent from OK. As the picture below shows, it was sold in a now closed store in Enid, OK so while it may not have travelled far, it looks like it did work hard.
I am going to guess it is from the 1930's. It is a Premier Knox as shown on the liner. I think the liner bottom is covered in glassine and is now disintegrating, making the picture hard to get. The brim is 3" and the open crown is 5". Not sure what the original bash was, but it may have been worn as an OR clone or teardrop alternately. The sweatband needs to be reattached in places so getting the under-band shots was delicate. Hopefully it cleans up nicely.
Saw that when I was researching. The comments from the grandson and the guy back home visiting were very poignant to me.
Whoever buys that one and can wear it wins the silverbelly trophy.1950s Knox 100. 5-1/2” crown. 3” brim with a Custom (Cavanagh/Felted) Edge

Thanks, Bob. This post wasn't a hint to rush you any. You'd told me you were away from home, so I knew it would be a little while til it shipped out. Thanks again Mike! I picked up a box and will get it out ASAP when I get back to the farm.
Knox made the Windjammer from 1942 until at least 1954I present my new Knox Fifteen Windjammer. Wonderful felt, possibly antelope finish, if not it is super soft whatever felt it is. It has a 2 3/4" overwelt brim. I believe it is likely late 40s maybe early 50s.

Thank you, I looked at many of the old ads you posted in the past. It seems many of the early hats were $7.50. Since this one is a 15 I thought it might be later version, but the onion skin liner says perhaps earlier?Knox made the Windjammer from 1942 until at least 1954
Thanks Randall, the sweat is slightly split at the seam and it has a few tiny nibbles but overall it's in terrific shape.Nice one, Simeon!
I have one, but it wasn’t in this good of condition. More like jammed with everything but wind.
