Who’s the maker of this cool jacket?
Wish I could say more about the origin of the jacket but there are no markings anywhere. Not even stitch holes from a removed tag. It's lined in plain black satin-like material with an open bottom hem. I searched underneath but didn't find any clues. Most I can say is I purchased it from a guy in the Seattle area who said it served him well for years. I asked him if he knew the origin but he didn't say.

Looks like those cool East-West Musical Instrument jackets inspired the maker.

Gotcha.

I like the WestRide jacket you have with the chest pocket design, and this one brings it to a whole new level.

Definitely has the East West vibe, but I don't think it was made by them. Their tag, which is many cases was removed, leaves a very distinct rectangular hole pattern, and it's often located on the placket. I don't find any evidence of this.

Many other makers from the same era exist that could have been the maker as well: Oshwahkon, KOK, Gandalf, etc. There was a company called Woolly Mammoth that was based in Seattle that made jackets in the same style as East West and these others. While it's pure speculation, it would be plausible they could be the maker since the previous owner that I bought it from lived in Seattle. But that's a pretty thin leg to stand on, so I just leave it uncredited and enjoy it nonetheless.

Yeah, they both feature the western "smiley" pockets. Here's the back:

IH 21oz 526J. Might well be my favorite type 3 ever. Built right and room to move.

I believe this was their original type 3 pattern before they added the hand warmers and releasing the 526PJ. Having owned both this is an entirely different jacket in that it feels like an actual jacket vs a shirt. I consider most IH stuff to be laughably over priced but the last few pieces I’ve picked up do feel “worth it”.

That leather is stunning. I suspect RC had a deal to get the very best hides coming out of the Shinki tannery.

So many IH jackets have horrible long, tubular ‘modern’ fits and 1980s hand warmers, but this is amazing - truly vintage pattern but in a high contrast fading denim. Win!

Hey thanks so much! The interesting thing about it is the depth and how much it changes color in different lights. More reddish in bright lights and more deep dark brown in dimmer lighting.
