Pean to Lee denim and modern repros

The denim really is supurb! I seriously considered hunting for a size Small or trying to alter this one. Because my odds of finding a 60s vintage 40L in near new condition aren’t great. And I still question the size tables on the Edwin archive version (which I couldn’t import to the US right now, anyway)



That’s a shame - both 70s era, right? Well, it will at least scratch my Storm Rider itch while I continue to hunt for something older. The denim still looks good though.

If If I do but both, you’ll probably see one of them in the B&S listing here before long!

I'm a bit curious about the Archive sizings as well, it's strange they don't follow the original sizings, it's a first for the Archives runs as the previous ones respected the vintage Lee measurements.

You can easily tell synthetic linings from the wool blends, as the stripes are vertical. They aren't uncomfortable, just not a material that wears well on a tighter fitting jacket, where there's a certain amount of friction.

Waiting for me when I got to the office this morning. The tag says 44R - had I been able to see that in the listing there is no way I would’ve ordered it, but it actually seems like a decent fit. My actual chest is about 38” and there’s definitely some room to layer and move. I have a slim 220J, so I think this might be a good addition to the wardrobe.

Fits you great, looks like you could wear a 42R equally well for a tighter fit over 1 layer.

I agree, they are perfect designs. I'll try to post some better pictures I took of mine, I got a new iPhone and the photos files are too large to upload as is, I'll have to reduce them a bit.

A very rough guess would place them in the '70s, when they had the care instructions label added but still were union made and labelled as such. Is there no interior label? What does the patch look like, pale plastic or a darker tan leather?

I bought a similarly labelled used pair a little while ago, they had probably been washed hot and shrunk about an inch at the waist to fit me perfectly (they are typically an inch larger at the waist when new than the label size).

The denim feels thick yet very supple, different than the Japanese denims used on my repros, but perhaps that's just due having been washed hot a few times. The fit is excellent, roomy on the leg without being too wide, and tight around the seat.

Thanks. I really wasn’t looking for more jeans but they just popped on on my feed as ‘vintage bootcut jeans’ and the measurements look really good. I actually just spent 5-6 times as much to get a similar (fitted top block and upped leg, falling straight down from the knee with an opening wide enough for pull-on boots) fit pair from Indogofera.

Definitely! I think most ‘rugged’ heritage fans are all about the selvedge line and overlook the beauty of vintage LHT. And the cut is absolutely perfect - and so hard to find now

Probably another silly question. Another pair of vintage Lee jeans that seem to be 70s. Similar measurements but a size down. But this label - surely they don’t mean the denim is a polly-cot mix???

I know they did blends in the '90s, maybe '80s as well, not aware of any from the '70s, but I'm going on scant evidence gleaned from vintage stuff I've seen that has been dated or whose era has been indicated.

Interesting. They have an old Talon zipper so could be 70s. I wonder if the blend were any good?

I don't see any advantage in a blend if it's not just to add a bit of stretch.

This is an incredibly good looking repro, aside from the RH twill it's as close as anything I've seen and the colour is excellent, too, though you're right about the lack of sheen. They look extremely well made and the denim seems like very decent quality going from the photos. The price is incredible, extremely good value!
