Selling my 2003 comp weight Model E. Very mixed feelings about selling it but can’t quite justify keeping this, my C2 and my Atlas! The thing which I like the most about it—that it feels like an over-engineered suit of armour, means that as a non-rider I tend to reach for my lighter, less badass jackets!

This is without question the heaviest, firmest comp weight I’ve experienced on the five CW Vansons I’ve owned—so much so that I didn’t believe the others (including two 90s jackets) were comp weight at first. This clocks in significantly heavier (by 1.5-2lbs) than my C2 or Atlas cross zips, both of which are a size bigger—they’re great leather but by comparison they both feel lightweight and spongy. The hide has a gorgeous graining and lasting sheen to it despite being fully broken in.

The center zip has been replaced by an all-metal two way YKK—zipper tape has no fraying which is almost unheard of on these. The sleeve zip sliders have also been replaced (professionally, by the brilliant Donna Howard of Horizon Designs/The Bespoke Aviator Jacket Co—probably could have done it myself but didn’t want to risk it) with matching pullers as they were worn.

This is the full set (synthetic mouton) in the best comp weight I’ve handled. I’d like £275 plus shipping which is a little less than I spent on it and I think a fair price. No offers on this please.

Would trade with cash adjustment as required for a Johnson Leathers M-500 or a Cal X-Zip that fits me perfectly but probably not much else!

Measurements (in/cm):

Chest: 19.75/50
Shoulders: 17/43
Hem: 18/46
Length: 24/61
Back drop: 0.5/1.5
Sleeves: 24/61

Weight: 6.7lbs/3.06kg

And here’s a nerdy post I did in the Vanson thread comparing 4 batches of comp weight including this:

Ha, funny you should ask as

I've spent a silly amount of time buying/selling to find those grail type Comps

in the Vanson thread did give me pause for thought!

I’m not 100% and I’m certainly not going to be reducing it to shift in a hurry, but the truth is I generally reach for one of my two lighter ‘normal’ 90s comp weight Vansons instead. I don’t ride and this is honestly a bit excessive!

I get it, I do....of course, and there's even a certain age when some of us have to give up "that look". My riding days are (according to my wife) over (for good? Who really knows, not me) But man...that is one PRIME example. And a perfect fit. You're kind to give others a chance to know greatness.

Yeah, I actually don’t think I would be able to find another like this, certainly in terms of leather but also fit wise as I think the back and sleeves are a little shorter than usual.

I’ve talked myself out of it—no longer for sale but do have a similar era Chopper in glorious X150 up now!

I'm really happy for you...grail pieces cause a sadness that never goes away when they do....
