The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

I just received an unnamed Borsalino, I assume based upon the white tag, to be from the mid-late eighties to early nineties. It took a bit of looking through this thread to find a similar paper size tag (paper, no US size, showing only UK, punti and CM, as the later foil ones do), but one from a former user was found, leading me to believe it is a hat made for the US market.

Found this beautiful Borsalino Tasso and wanted to know more about it, it’s age, type of fur, color, and which color band it came with originally? I want to restore it as close as its original look as possible and was wondering what is its value?

Looks like a nice hat, but for any of us to be able to say anything we need to see a picture of the label that's underneath the sweatband opposite the borsalino logo.

Here is a picture of the inside sticker
The hat dates back to the 1954-1960 period. Can't be anymore specific than that. The felt is rabbit because the hat doesn't state otherwise. The colour is misto (which is wat the m. stands for) ruitor, so a mixed felt. The ribbon was in a colour called viscarda (the c. on the label stands for cinta = ribbon), which is also a grey, but likely a darker one. My own misto ruitor hat has a contrasting ribbon as well.

The model name is ta idora 41 (the model names remain a mystery), while Tasso (badger) could either refer to the finish of the felt or be a marketing name for easier retail. Being a larger size it should be easy to sell once the ribbon has been replaced. Have a look on Ebay what these larger size Borsalinos usually go for. Certainly an attractive hat.

My newest Borsalino, a beautiful Feather weight. What’s the deal with the hats with the different sweatband stitching at the

As Charlie @hatsRme noted, it was a form of ventilation system, but also gave a more flexible/floating sweatband for a more comfortable fit.

It's based on the Bon Ton Ivy design popular from the mid twenties to thirties.

There's a Bon Ton Ivy thread here on the FL you can check out.

I recently found another Borsalino locally. I do like the colour and the shape of the hat crease, I'm just not quite sure of the stingy brim, which measures in a 47 mm or 1 7/8 inches ( if I'm reading my ruler correctly). I do see now that this is not a good colour when one has a cat with white hair, it also looks somewhat darker to the naked eye.

Carl-Axel was a mens fashion store in Stockholm, I can find references to the place, but haven't found when the place shut down. The man Carl-Axel Pettersson was a business man who enjoyed curling, and got an olympic silver medal in 1924. The fashion store opened in the early 1900's, and was run by Carl-Axel until his death in 1962.

Somebody will have to help me with decoding the lable. I'm dating it between 1961 and 1972, I would lean more to the earlier part of the 1960's - but this depends really on when the shop actually closed.

I'm translating the colour as moka, althought it looks more like imoke to me. Size is 57 cm. It has shrunk a tad, but I'm slowly using a stretcher to ease it back to size.

Finnaly I get a hat with a hat trolley alas no button, the loop is still stiched on to the hat, so it has never been used.

Hat weighs in a 124 g or 1/4 oz.

It is nice to have a slightly heavier weight hat as we are going into winter, and I do think that the deep brown compliments an autumnal colour palette.

I won an auction last month for 5 various Borsalino hats (for a price less the the retail cost of any one of them). My sister-in-law brought the hats to me today from South Florida and I have them in some condition to share. The fifth hat is a woman's hat in white being cleaned.

First up. A Lupo color Mascotte, dating from 68-75 with an 8cm brim. The oldest of the lot.

Lastly, another gray Worth and Worth with a 6cm brim, similar tag inside to the previous three. Both this one and the tan one have more shellacked brims than I am used to on (non-Jewish market) Borsalinos, but it is still obvious that these are fine felts. More will be posted in the hats being worn threads once they make it into the rotation.

Jeff, "Lupo" is the color, Mascotte is the the name of the type of hat, even if I have never seen the "original", I mean the one from which Borsalino marketing took the name reported on different hats that are branded "Mascotte".
By the way they are all nice!

Thank you, yes, I guess the way I worded it was to mean Lupo color, Mascotte type hat. I have other Mascotte hats, but I believe this is my first in Lupo.
