My adventures in any of the jackets in my collection usually involves something car-related.

I think I tend to justify the jacket addiction by needing a variety of outer layers for a variety of automotive pursuits.
The way i justify jackets is “cheaper than motorcycles.”

The same I do for over fourty years now; work hard, drink hard, slap hard, haha…

Just kidding, things became way more tame with the decades but i wear leather jackets at all occasions since i ´ve been a kid.

Began similar to that guy in #21, just without a „Kutte“ (that Denim vest he wears) as I had more kind of a Punk/Oi than metal background.

Bought my 1st leather jacket (mascot)crosszip in 1974.never been without a bike since, own around 35 currently ,mix of leather and textile.
Still miss that old mascot, red quilt lining,,happy days.

The Mascot Black Night, presumably? A worn by Feargal Sharkey on the cover of the first Undertones album. Pretty sure Rat Scabies wore one in the early Damned days as well. Popular with a lot of the punk boys as a more affordable alternative to a Lewis. It's a shame the revival of the brand didn't last; much like Goldtop, they had a distinctive vibe that was their own rather than "only" knocking off Lewis designs.

The year was 1988, Billy Crystal was hosting the Grammys and I was graduating high school

I stepped into my parents living room and on the television I saw this man walk onto the stage and give a captivating performance of Let Me Stay wearing that leather jacket

His jacket is what got me into leather jackets which I've been wearing now for almost 40 years

Rain or shine cold or warm office or home or vacation alone or with company on my bike in my cars or walking, it's always a leather jacket with few exceptions

In fact I eventually purchased one just like his, (see above), and I still wear it when the mood hits

All you people who actually bike in your jackets, I play pinball mostly xD

My wife and I are really big into the Chicago pinball scene and one of the major places is a Punk/arcade bar that's one of the weirdest, but also most inclusive places I've ever been. It's not unusual at all to see a 50-something year old blue collar guy from the burbs chatting with a 22 year old fashion student, waiting for their next pinball tournament match, while obscure early 90s anime plays on a projector, an old Chuck-e-Cheese anamatronic band plays Misfits parody songs in the corner, and a bird puppet runs a twitch stream.

Even then, I'm still known as the leather jacket/hat guy.

I got my first leather jacket when I got my first motorcycle about 12 years ago. It just felt like I had to have one to ride in. Like peanut butter and jelly.

The more I rode, the less often I wore the leather for local rides and more for long distance riding.

As I got deeper into my boot obsession, then denim, I started to find a passion for leather jackets too. I guess it was a style thing.

I had a rad Himel Cannuck that I wore for a couple years but ended up selling because the fit was a bit restrictive. Now I have two Iron Heart leather jackets. The ******** and the split steer type 3. Love them both.

I’ve yet to find my “perfect” fitting, comfortable in all conditions, wear with anything leather jacket. Want to get a Flat Head type 2 black leather jacket next. That leather looks so so good!!

When I was still working (now retired at 67), for 30 years my workplace was chock full of changing 30 somethings, and I was (behind my back) labelled "leather jacket guy".
Not "nasty" in reality, and I was OK with it.
One year, for "Movember" I shaved my beard to a Viva Zapata moustache.
Young bird, maybe 28/30, says to me
"Nice Mo' leatherman".
I reply "why Miss it's my John Holmes impersonation but it's the ONLY way I resemble him".
Blank look, and a "John Who ?".
I backtrack a bit and say "ask one of the older ladies in.your department".
Few weeks later, full staff meeting, I walk into the ampitheatre and the same young sheila is just in the door.
As I am taking off my leather jacket of the day she looks me up and down and says "John Holmes eh ? John Homes ?" Haha...
NOWADAYS you'd get in deep chit for that exchange.
These leather jackets could get you in strife haha....

I never see them either. I think 90% of owners are on tfl.

I suppose it's like hats.... a fashion thing. When I first picked up an eight panel cap twenty odd years ago, there was only me and Victor Meldrew wearing them that I knew. Then along came Peaky Blinders....

Leather jackets are definitely vastly rarer among my undergraduate charges than they were in my day. I'd say back in the 90s it was still mostly those of us on the alternative fringes wore them, but there were loads of them around. Plenty of kids wearing 70s style jackets like those that later turned up in Fight Club: this was the grunge era, and they were available for under a tenner in just about any charity shop in town. Rare in the university setting - though I do see a few more of them on the street among younger people, maybe they're working and have the scratch for them? It seems too that a lot of mainstream fashion outlets have gone pleather, whereas in my day they'd have cowhide readily available. Not necessarily great jackets, but certainly more durable than the artificial stuff that has taken their place in the fast fashion marketplace.

I don't think we've had a film that would resonate with Ver Kids that featured a hero leather jacket in a long time, which probably also plays into the mix. I'm sure this will change eventually.

Kids don’t watch films anymore either.
