Got a preview of my completed jacket. Not quite what I asked for but it should be nice. I’m too burned out this time of year to make a stink.

It’s horsehide. Roughly 3.75oz

Hi folks. I just got a new JL CR76 jacket from their holiday sales. While this is a lovely jacket, I notice the leather has some weird spots (flakes? Bad dye spot? Idk)

Could anyone give any insight what these are?

From my conversations with JL (and the sample they sent me - see photos), it’s 2.75 oz.

Alan corrected me, it is in fact 2.75oz but certainly feels substantial when I handled it.

Looks like some small scars on the leather.

Both of those are absolutely killer! What leather did you choose for each?

They are both made with Horween CXL horse fronts, 2.75-3 ounces

If the phantom is too shiny, I’ve heard they can knockdown the sheen somewhat.

I have a phantom jacket and I love it and the sheen also the sheen will dull down on its own with time I’m sure no matter what you choose you will have a great jacket

Any leather will lose its shine give enough weather and light exposure; I‘d pick based on texture and feel rather than initial shine.

Some leathers get shinier with wear.

M-500 is their CHP-style jacket, a form of which they still supply to the Oakland PD, I believe. Did you pick it up in store?

Totally normal. Wear and enjoy your new jacket.
These small scares are natural elements of the leather's first life.
