Mailman just delivered a new ebay block. shape similar to a 52 shape, but its only 4-1/2" tall. Price was too good to pass on. Should clean up just fine. Ill fit a couple more inches of wood to the bottom and it should be perfectly usable. it will be all pretty soon!

good news.... the dark places are just paint! Flakes off pretty easily with the edge of a cabinet scraper.. It will still be a 7-1/4 when Im done with it!

Its got a decent profile, just a bit short. I had a 3d printed block printed up once and it came out the same way ( had to add an extension to it too) Got a couple extension pieces cut out yesterday before our storms hit. Trying to decide if an additional 3/4" will be enough or if Ill just go a full inch and a half. Im just going to Just need to clear some junk off the garage bench so i can get to the big belt sander to clean up the bottom a bit. Hoping the base extensions will be glued up today. Then a bit of spindle sander work to blend the old and the new together.

Should be a perfectly usable unit when done. One can never have too many old blocks to choose from.

Base pieces glued together, Holes aligned and drilled, and the new base extension is glued and clamped in place. Funny how it never dawned on me how a block stand would make a good gluing fixture!. Should be able to spend some time on the spindle sander in the morning and make this look like something!

And before anyone asks, Ive already got it off the block stand and propped up to dry. I was NOT going to leave it like this overnight and risk glue seapage turning this into one piece lol

Yesterday I got the new wood trimmed down to profle, and mixed some glue and sawdust to fill some gaps and cracks. I DID decide to add a full inch and a half to the bottom. Should fully support a 6" crown now.

Got the sanding done and some tung oil worked in. after It soaked for a few hours I hit it with a heat g u n and removed any excess. This morning I applied some carnuba wax and once dry will do a bit of buffing... Pretty much done and usable now!

A while back I had ordered a set of the flexible sizing bands from RandalAlan. ( really cool set of sizing bands from 53 cm all the way up to 65cm) Not sure if it just never shipped or if the usps dissappeared it. Anyway reached out to him and he really stepped up. Got a set shipped right out and even threw in some goodies for the delay( a pusher downer, a puller downer, a toliker, and a handful of wall hat hangers) Really pleased with the outcome. Ive had a couple of his hat blocks from his etsy site for a while and have always been impressed with his 3d printing. Just thought Id throw this out if anyones wondering about his products... two thumbs up in my book!
