Am I crazy or is this Zara leather jacket actually nice? The leather looks good, styling is interesting. Honestly I thought this was an expensive jacket at first… IMG_2138.jpeg IMG_2139.jpeg

If the jacket is a collab with a respected maker and/or has good specs there is no reason why it can't be a nice jacket. I got off my high horse (pun intended) years ago and even acquired a suede trucker from Reiss, which I still wear to this day. Yes, the $2,500 horsehide pieces from Japan makers are unique, but there is no reason something a 5th of that price cannot be a great jacket, assuming it fits you right and you like it. Life is short, don't worry about who you might be impressing - wear something you are comfortable with, and enjoy it.

Think I own the same Reiss suede trucker- probably my best fitting jacket.

That being said the leather on this Zara is the thing that is suprising me the most

3 days ago I bought a jacket sold through Allen Edmonds that was made by Schott, the Delivery jacket #246 in lambskin.

For years, if not decades, I snootily dismissed these brands outright but realize now that was a mistake. The quality of their product is quite good, and those who only accept $3,000 japanese jackets, etc as "acceptable" are being shortsighted. The days of dismissing a major clothing brand as inferior by definition are over. In some cases, we can see their leather quality and/or manufacturing process have vastly improved, or in Schott's case, was always quite good. My Reiss suede jacket is a superb piece and am glad I got it, it is perfect for temps 50 and up.

I think the classic Gap leather trucker is a great example of this. They're excellent jackets, if you can click with the sizing. And available for an absolute song now on eBay etc.

I really like the look of the Zara one you posted @newtojackets . It made me look at the Zara website to see how much it cost.

Only to discover the Zara website is the most inhospitable, un navigatable place known to nan.

Nice design. If the quality feels decent, I certainly wouldn't turn o=it down just because of the label. The main problem I've seen with a lot of highstreet leather in the last twenty years has been how it's almost always lambskin (just too fragile for me). If this has a decent heft and durability, though, it's make for a nice jacket.

This one is actually made of a buffalo leather, which was also what surprised me

*I think* That might be mine - photos from eBay? :)

It is a really nice mid weight leather, thick but quite soft. Similar to those Levis truckers from a couple of years back. I like the cut and the fit, this is an XL and I'm a 44" chest. Its the colour for me, I'm just not sure it suits me and I have a couple of lighter/tan leather jackets, I just tend to wear those.

I bought it used and couldn't find much/anything on it online other than someone else selling one saying it was a limited edition of some kind.

Haha yes, that’s where I got the photo- surprised to see it’s someone from TFL, what are the odds!

How does the quality compare to some of the other jackets you own? How is the leather, is it durable?

Does it fit true to size?

If I see one in my size, I may pick it up

Of course - it has the look of it. Buffalo is a nice hide, definitely works best with more utilitarian sizes like this. I wouldn't have thoght I'd have like that 'faded denim blue' colour if you'd described it to me, but seeing it, it really pops.

Knew there had to be something very wrong with it..... it's not a 48. ;-)

Anyone know if it's a current design, or something from an older collection?

I more meant I was surprised that Zara was willing to use more interesting leathers than lamb.

From Google, it seems like this is an old collection, but I really can’t find too much about it online.

The model is 4720/301

I really like the leather, It feels mid weight, like I think I mentioned, it reminds me of the more recent Levis Buffalo Truckers from three or four years ago. It doesn't feel a solidly made as anything by a named maker I have and the lining is a so-so polyester. Its like a 'nice' mall jacket just with better leather and a decent cut.

Its small/slim fitting like most Zara items. Mine is an XL and I am a 44" chest in a suit and this is a snug fit, t-shirts only. I do like the fit on me and the cut of it.

I'm kind of convincing myself I should keep it here but I know I've got about four other jackets I'd wear in similar circumstances that I'd wear this. I did wonder about having a go at dying it, I do like the colour but I've got a couple of lighter colour leathers which are similar weights to this.

I did find this image when I was looking before. I think this must be the same jacket but I guess there was some colour variation as mine is a little darker. Would also say this model has probably gone up at least two sizes for this loose fit.

I thought the same, that lambskin was too delicate but the heft of the Schott 246 lambskin is significant, rivaling deer or even cow in its feel/thickness, and I'm someone coming from 20 years of wearing multiple Aero FQHH coats. Like all hides/skins, the tannery and manufacturer have a big part to play in the leather and its feel.

Sounds like the sheep Lewis use.
