Hey, Bob

It's dove grey (looks an awful lot like the "seamist" on the previous page) with a wide black band. High crown, about 5 1/2 inches, but tapered, with a deep diamond bash. And a 3 1/8-inch bound brim.
It's an amazing hat, and if I could post a pic I would. Every time I try to attach a pic to a posting here, though, the website tells me the upload failed.
Anyway, I am more than impressed with it, as you might have noted. VERY cool hat.
Sending you a PM, too.

Creme Optimo

My new Optimo in creme with a black ribbon. Standard weight felt; C Crown-ish; 2.5 inch brim.

Looks fantastic with black.

End of season verdict

Well, having bought and worn various felts since last fall, I have to say the Optimo I bought from Graham in November, just before election day, has emerged as my hands-down favorite. Expensive, but worth it.
I am still plagued by an inability to post pictures on this site, but here is the link to the hat. It's the 47th Street model, but mine has a much broader brim, 3 1/4 inches, and is in "nickel grey".

I intend to buy a second Optimo later this year, either in "seafoam" or "creme."

But pretty soon, the felts are going into their boxes for the hot weather. And right now, Graham is blocking a Montecristi for me.

Okay, here it is

My favorite hat of all. Bought from Graham at Optimo last November. It's the "47th Street" model, in nickel grey. It has the highest crown Graham offers, a deep, diamond-like bash, and a wide, bound brim. About 3 1/4 inches.
Nice taper on the crown.

Nice looking hat, Neil. I really like the color and the bound brim.

One of these days I'm going to get to Optimo. I went to Chicago for a one day business trip a few weeks ago but didn't have time to get there. I will though.

I talked to one of the ladies there a week or two ago about the Johnny Depp Public Enemy hat. She said they should be able to start producing them in September at a starting cost of around $600. That figure rather causes me to pause, but I may do it. I really like the hat. I will also check with TonyB. He may not be able to get the oxblood felt, but he makes a very fine fedora for a lot less money.

I also sent a Stetson 25 I fished from the bay to Optimo for a refurb. I should have it back in a week or so.

Optimo's hats

Well, their hats are already $550, Bob, but Graham might be putting up his prices again. (There are still pictures of his shop on the web when he was charging $350, and that was just a few years ago. You've probably noted he doesn't post prices on his site).
Fact is, though, the 42nd Street I bought from him is by far my favorite. There is no arguing with the fact that he makes great hats. And a businessman will charge what the market will bear, and I guess the market will bear quite a lot.
I'm planning to buy a second felt fedora from him this fall, but to be honest, $550 might be my ceiling. Let's see what he does.

Just recently bought this used Optimo off of the estate of Sergei (from COW). It's a beauty, although I'm not sure about the somewhat tapered crown. Regardless, I just love the hyper-soft, hyper-floppy felt and wish I had more like that.

In terms of quality, I'd put it on par with my Adventurebilts, although I have no doubt that the AB could take more punishment. Now I just have to wait for my "work of Art" to arrive and then I can do a three-way comparison.

So do I count as a Mobster now? :) -M

And my straw. I have not left the house without it on my head since Memorial Day weekend.

I should have a new one in September after the new felts arrive. I was inspired by the brown hat with the rose ribbon that Art did a while back. Last time I was in the shop, Tiffany showed me quite a few lighter colored ribbons that contrasted beautifully with brown. I've got to stop talking about it now - getting too excited.

Cheers,

Shane

Optimo Homburg

Right off the website- Optimo Homburg in English Gray with dark gray ribbon. Ribbon looks black in photo, but it's really a very dark charcoal.
