Spiffed up Beater by Optimo...

I landed this Royal Deluxe Stetson Open Road out of the 'Bay because it was my size & a Royal Deluxe OR at a decent BIN price. It was a bit rougher than I expected but still good felt. Here it is on my noggin...

The reed in sweat was worn thru & not comfortable to wear, so I decide to send to Chicago for an Optimo renovation. They were out of the color ribbon for the binding & the band & suggested a silver color. I decided to go darker since I had seen a Buckaroo hat rigged that way. I had new liner installed but not completely please at how the cleaning seems to have taken down the felt nap on the brim...

Here's my old moth eaten beater:

Dobbs Westward, I just got today!
Cleaned it up a bit, re-bashed it, the sweat's in great shape, I have no idea how old the thing is, but it's exactly what I was looking for. Something I can mow the yard and clean out the garage in!

I love it and can't wait to add some more character to it.:D

It's about the same shape and color of my "Silverbelly" Campdraft but a much better hat! Smoother and stiffer felt.

Ain't it amazin' how different one "silverbelly" is from another? Some are a warm, tannish color, while others are way bluer. I don't know which (if any) of those colors might be truer to the "original" silverbelly, or even if anyone can make a good case for theirs being the original.

Got a couple of Dobbs Westwards myself. One is a pretty nice hat, And the other, well, not so much. I'll likely sell it. Cheap. Sooner or later. Probably later.

Cool spectacles, by the way.

Most of these are waayyyy too nice, fellas. :p

Can't believe I missed this one last month.

Good eye, Marc. Those Eagles are cool hats, no? The Vita-Felt, however, tends to wear thin at the top pinch. Gotta' be careful with mine now.

Very funny crack about "early days of HPG" causing that Frankenstein damage to Dean's hat. lol :eusa_clap

OK, so here's a pile of hats I have and continue to put through hell on hiking trails and during handyman chores here in the sweaty South.

Hell yeah Gene!! (Just tell me you didn't take all those on the one day!?)

Take THAT all you city boys who worry whether your hat will handle a little bit of rain. Gene's just shown you what a felt hat is made for!

PUNISHMENT!

Beaters Galore!

Wow! HarpPlayerGene you almost have more beaters than I have regular hats! Obviously you're a man who's not afraid to wear a hat like it was meant to be used. Everyday and in everyway.
Congrats sir.

Here's my summer beater a Koko-kooler out of St. Louis from the 40's I think.

I've spent a lot of days out in the yard and galavanting around town with this baby. Good 'ole sweat and gravity's making a mark on this straw for sure.

Then there's my wool Stetson Mallory. Though it's not the best of my hats, it is one of my favorites. Unlike my good felts that I baby probably way too much, I don't mind if this one hits the dirt or gets blown down the street, well, 'cause it's wool!
