    Early 1900s Leather Suitcases? Repros?

Those old bags tend to be VERY heavy. As cool looking as they are, I want my luggage to be light weight. I make one concession for a small leather duffel from Piel. Otherwise, the old stuff is simply not practical for the modern way we travel, style points not withstanding.

    Bush Jackets

The thing that it's got over the old M65 is lots of extra pockets and a hood (although I have yet to use the hood).

    Bush Jackets

https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/91038?feat=593-GN1&page=l-l-bean-travel-jacket&csp=f I bought one of these from LL Bean last year. I bought both the khaki and olive drab (kelp green on their site) and, surprisingly, returned the khaki one. But I wear khaki pants most of the time so it was a...

    The wrist watch.

While I have some inherited vintage watches (1955 Hamilton Dorsey, early 1960's Omega Constellation, late 60's Tissot), I prefer wearing one of my Rolex's or Omega Speedmaster Pro. These are getting to be of vintage age as well. I prefer wearing a modern, durable wristwatch. Then again, I...

    What's For Breakfast...

Almost always, two eggs in one form of prep or another. Sometimes bacon or turkey sausage as well. Other occasions, it might be plain Greek yogurt with some fruit and a handful of nuts (almonds or walnuts). What I'd *prefer* is French toast, and a side of pastries...

What do you do for Living?

I did a few things in life, even a turn as a cop in San Francisco in the 1970's, but I retired as a financial adviser some years back.

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

With nearly 6000 posts, I'm sure someone already mentioned the first thing that popped into my mind - manners.

    Classic Pilot Watch

I have an Archimede 39H which is a smaller, authentic appearing (no maker labeling on the dial) German pilot watch which IWC makes in a MUCH more expensive version. It uses an ETA 2824-2 auto movement. I paid in the $500 range for it. Not as accurate as my COSC watches but just fine for daily...

    Clarks "Desert Boots"

I have both the original sand color desert boots (with the crepe sole) and the less expensive Bushacre II shoes with a different sole. I prefer the latter but they both are wearing quite well. Had both for about three years now and both are in my regular rotation (which during nicer weather is...

    The Shortwave Radio Thread.

I have a late 1980's (?) Grundig Yacht Boy 400 that I bought new just before a long RV trip so we'd have something to listen to. It was useful then but I rarely used the short wave bands after we returned, just AM. When I moved to rural Idaho in 1994, I strung up a long antenna and started...

    Which watch

Why not a vintage Omega or Hamilton (or similar)? You might look into the various pilot watches out there too. This one from Archimede would suit casual business and weekend wear plus it's a modern version of the vintage Flieger German pilot watch but in an easy to wear size. Disclaimer - I...

    Pat Novak for hire

It's great that so many of these shows are available to listen to again. Pat Novak is at the top of the heap for the detective genre IMO.

Who Are Your Favorite Golden Era Vocalists?

I particularly love Tex Beneke singing with The Modernaires. Also, The Andrews Sisters. These two are standouts for me but pretty much everyone previously listed too.

    Pat Novak for hire

Big fan of the Jack Webb episodes. I like to listen in a darkened room whenever I listen to old radio shows. I have a 1936 Zenith tombstone radio that has a little MP3 connection wired in back so I can stream shows from archive.org and youtube through it rather than my modern stereo system.

What are the Oldest Objects you Own?

The oldest man-made things we own are two Clovis spear points (thought I had a couple photos but couldn't find them on an iPhoto search). They came out of New Mexico and I bought them there in the early 80's. They were authenticated by a local museum here and are at least 12,000 years old, and...
