I'm glad to see the thread I started about dressing appropriatly has taken off like this. To elaborate on some of my own feelings on the matter I will say that I don't regularly attend church but the occasions when I have entered a holy site I had always done my best to appear well dressed and...
I usually brave cold elements in a sweater with either a tweed or wool sport coat and a wool overcoat. Keeps me nice and warm although I only have regular slacks so my legs often freeze. I really must get some corduroy or tweed pants to stay as warm as possible........
It doesn't distract me at all, it just makes me wonder what ever happened to knowing what was appropriate in certain environments thats all. And the school has been working on banning them in the dress code for awhile now actually so clearly those in charge share my opinion to some degree.
The purpose of this thread is not to bash anyone. I simply found it interesting and a little bit disheartening to see that classical establishments were lowring thier dress standards. Not out of snobbery or some sense of being better than the average guy out there but because I love history and...
Just stumbled across this article and it rather perfectly sums up how I feel about the over-casualization of America. I don't really mind people wearing what they want on their time but in certain settings I feel certain dress rules should be observed as a sign of respect and this article...
Your all making some fine points! And I do agree with the fish out of water statement made by Pompidou. Wearing a sportcoat, slacks and dress shirt every day has made me stand out from my peers who dress more like ordinary teens are expected to. I almost always get compliments so I don't...
It is my dearest wish that this thread not turn nasty or bad in any way. I merely hoped to express my opinion on certain clothing types and their levels of appropriatness in certain envronments, while trying to be respectful of everyones right to dress as they like and I was hoping it might...
I agree completly with what has been said so far. You can dress like a million bucks or like a hobo but its certainly who you are that should be judged the most. Wether your a good person or not matters more. I was just a bit concerned with how casual everything seems to have become lately, to...
Hmmm. Interesting discussion so far. I do heavily agree with GinandTonics that while I don't neccesarily think people should have to dress a certain way i do simply think that theres a time and place for everything and the sense of knowing when to wear or when not to wear something is...
I agree silverladybug. I respect others rights to wear whatever they want but I do think that there is a time and a place for some things. I of course usually wear blazers and sportcoats with slacks as opposed to jeans and a T shirt like most of my peers and I tend to think that its a way of...
A fair point of course Dinerman. I just felt like seeing that was perhaps not appropriate for being in a professional setting or being in a class room. It just struck me as very unprofessional and I suppose it rubs me the wrong way because of that.
Another step I suppose, in the casualization of the world is the trend for girls to wear yoga pants all the time. I don't know if this has been covered before but at my school(and from what I've read this is happening around the country) it has become fashionable for girls to wear yoga pants as...
Well I'm seventeen and I've only started really dressing well and looking into vintage over the past year. When I was younger I loved noir films(still do) and that probably influenced me alot. I love the modern world with my cell phone and internet and all the other newfangled doohickeys there...
Saw something like this just yesterday. Me and a couple friends stopped someplace to get some food and I saw a girl wearing grey sweatpants with fuzzy black boots and a tank top. The whole outfit itself looked really bad but the legs on the sweatpants had been pulled up because of the heat so...
