I had a repair done a couple of years ago at JJ. Wonderful job, very carding Milner helped find all the right parts (I had an oil stain on a 50 year old Borsalino). The girl who did the work is not there any more, but I don't think that changes the attitude of the shop. Eli

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

I agree and have both. The taller model is best for taller hats (I have an old beaver Top Hat that's shrunk, was able to stretch it just enough to fit again). The shorter ones are easier and should be fine with most hats. BUT be very careful not to overstretch, or you'll end up with a nice bump...

He's actually in Dallas Oregon, but I just had a 1950's Borsalino fixed up by him (removed and restitched the leather sweatband, also cleaned and reshaped the hat) for about $70 plus shipping. Well worth it because it looks great and he preserved the old GB Borsalino sweatband even though it had...

Ask a question, get an answer

OK gang, just have to post this. A few weeks ago, someone asked about hat repair, I responded that I had sent my 1960's G. B. Borsalino to a guy named Pa-Fig (he's in Facebook) to have the leather sweatband repaired but NOT replaced. I received his name from JJ Hat Center in Manhattan. So I'm...

I had the same question about my father's 1960's Borsalino Torino. Called J. J. Hats in Manhattan, they recommended a guy named Pa-Fig (he's on Facebook). Hope he does a good job, because dads old GB Borsalino is on the way out to him right now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Really? C'mon?!? This isn't the 60's... I do have some spray starch, but I'd be concerned with damaging the color.

What do you mean about "resemble the curve"? I have a Hat Jack I can use to stretch it out, but I don't have a mold of any sort to shape the brim. I'd have to get something like PVC or flat wood maybe to hold it up and down in the right places. No?

    The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

Right... I figured I could stretch with steam... but any ideas to get the shape of the brim to hold? It wants to go back to a downturn all around, when I want to have the back up and front down (and then there's a small crease in the brim as well). Good thing is was only $30.

    The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

Hi all, a question if I may about stretching and reshaping a Straw Borsalino! I just picked up a vintage straw Borsalino and need some help. It arrived with the brim turned up, and its also a bit tight. Size tags say both 60 and 7 ⅜ (I know that doesn't really make sense). I'm a good 7 ½, so I...

    The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

May I ask what size it started at? I have a couple of older Borsalinos that don't want to stretch for me, hat jack and steam just isn't doing it, they always bounce back. Would love to know if there is a real solution that will stay and how far it can legitimately go. - eli104

    The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

So to be clear, all those size 6 hats I'm seeing on eBay that are marked "Vintage" and show "Antqua Casa" (meaning made for the European market) are most likely 7-3/8 in US sizing? This would explain why the size 6 I have from inside the family, but purchased in Italy, is so easily stretched to...

    The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

Interesting. I have a 7 ½ from the 60's (was my fathers) that fits perfectly. But a 6 from the 50's (from my wife's grandfather) that is only a tiny bit small. Maybe we should have changed to the metric system in the 70's after all. - eli104

    The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

Yeah, it's probably going to be history. The hat has shipped to New York where one of three things will happen. Either the hatter will find a vintage ribbon to replace it, find a current ribbon to match, or simply see the original ribbon back and I'll just live with the faded area as you say, as...
