In terms of simplicity, which pattern would you ladies suggest for a first timer? I've made pillow covers for a couple years now but that's about the extent of my sewing skills on my machine. I'm really itching to try a dress pattern this summer, especially from the Butterick line (their stuff...
Does your machine have a zig-zag edge option? I think that would probably work... Can you test some of the stitching options on a small scrap piece first to see which holds/looks better before doing a whole garment?
Apologies for the un-glamorous bathrobe collar in this shot. This was my attempt at a sculpted Joan Holloway style up-do today. Worked like a charm as it was pouring and hailing! Anything that wasn't plastered to my head would have been a bird's nest by the end of the day!
Hubby is down with a horrible cold/flu/pneumonia/I don't even know what. So I'm next to him on the laptop (giggling at his medicine-induced snoring :p) and watching "I Love Lucy" from our collection. And it's utterly pouring outside! So much for sunny Southern California weather!
I was sucked into the article on natural childbirth. I'm surprised to see photos of her husband in the delivery room. I didn't think men were allowed into labor and delivery even into the 1960's...?
Turth be told I'm lucky; I really love my job and I have much more freedom than I did in my previous position (where I was in a uniform comprised of a shapless button down top)! And thankfully I can find plenty of office-friendly dresses that still give me that certain something ;)
For you other ModCloth gals, do any of you have dresses made mostly of polyester? I own 2 items from them and love them, and currently have my eye on a third. The only downfall is in the reviews some of the girls complain of wrinkling. I didn't think polyester wrinkled easily? It...
I love this foundation. I recently purchsed Urban Decay's "Naked" foundation, and aside from the $40 price tag , I can't tell a difference between it and ColorStay (in fact, I think I like CS better). As soon as my bottle is empty I'm going back to Revlon!
This was my 'do today. Not super vintage, but I work in one of those lovely public-owned corporate offices so I usually have to settle for retro "inspired" rather than full on looks. These curls were done with my flat iron. I love this method because they will last for days, but it does some...
Hello ladies,
Giving this thread a little bump! Has anyone gone from salon coloring to henna coloring? I'm trying to get away from the processed stuff, but all I've hear are horror stories about going to henna if you have ever had your hair colored in a salon. I've been coloring my hair since...
>>BUMP!<<
I was watching this video on YouTube (searching for some vintage etiquette videos) and she mentions using a "stimulation cream" on her face. What is she talking about? Is that something we still have around these days? I don't think she's referring to moisturizer as she takes it off...
I try so hard with my manners, but I always forget to stand up straight, or keep my elbows off the table. Most of the (few) manners I do have lol I learned from my grandparents.
