    Motherhood & the Vintage Lifestyle

Viola, your bangs look great! I hear you on the hairdresser thing. Its rare that I can find one who understands the vintage aesthetic. I actually hate going to salons because I always have to explain my weird curly bang situation... I cut them in an odd way to get them to lay right when I...

    Motherhood & the Vintage Lifestyle

I am expecting my first little one in about 5 months, so this thread is very interesting to me. I'd like to add my two cents! I started working from home a few years ago and I love to sew, so since then I have stocked my closet with many cheerful cotton 1940s-style housedresses (can't resist...

    Saddle shoes

Here's my saddle sob story with a (I hope) happy ending: I bought a pair of coffee-n-cream saddles from Muffy's last summer - but I ordered a wide size despite the fact that I have a regular foot, because that was all they had left in 9 1/2! My unwise decision can only be explained by the fact...

    Saddle shoes

You know, I personally haven't found them all that slippery on hardwood or grocery store floors. But I haven't tried them on ice yet! I'm glad I know there's someone out there who is my "shoe-twin"!!

    Saddle shoes

MissElainey, those are the exact shoes I bought from Muffy's this summer! I love them. They go with everything and they're so fun to wear. It didn't take me long to break them in, either! They are worth every penny.

Ooh, CRWRITT! I love it... you've got to show us pics of the other two! And I agree, they ARE fun to wear. I have been living in mine ever since they came off the sewing machine. They're so easy and comfy to wear, but at the same time, they're not shapeless or frumpy. My kinda frock!

I made two Swirls! Here are two Swirl-inspired dresses I made from a $5 1980s pattern found on Etsy. I discovered that there are lots of wrap dress patterns out there from all decades, and they all have the same general silhouette and BIG pockets! I made the light purple one with I Love...

Oh my gosh, YesterdayGirl! That is my dream dress. As if the celery print wasn't enough, I adore the triangle pattern around the neckline and on the pockets! You look great in it. I have a pattern for a Swirl-type wrap dress that I plan on making -- I've already bought vintage veggie fabric for...

    The ones that got away

Zendy, I love that green/gray number! What a loss. I right-clicked to save the image for my own image collection, and laughed when I saw that you had labeled it "weep". So appropriate.

CRWRITT: Yes, please do let us know how it turns out, because I have been obsessing over that pattern for a solid year. If you can copy it, you'll be my hero!

Inky: I watched a slew of I Love Lucy episodes a few months ago and I kept admiring Ethel's more humble wardrobe more than Lucy's uncomfortable-looking, super-cinched-waist style! FuzzyLizzie: I love the post! Maybe Ethel paid for her $9 housedresses herself, with whatever profits she could...

I have been hunting this pattern for a year with no luck whatsoever, and just today I realized it was a Swirl-style dress! It buttons at the top of the back and it wraps around to the front! And check out the unique skirt. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Ethel Mertz wore these kinds of dresses a...

This thread is great!! I LOVE sunny, practical cotton dresses and was not previously aware of a Swirl brand, but I am really enamored now. I am already on the hunt for a wartime housedress pattern, just so's I can use old kitchen-print curtain fabric for contrasting pockets! How cute would that...

And actually, to add to this, the clothespin bag reminds me of the bag I made for my delicates this winter, as we were living somewhere where I didn't have a chest of drawers to put them in. Same kind of design, hung on a hanger and all. But I never thought of using my pretty embroidered linens...

Wow, BoPeep! Your clothesline bag! My grandmother gave me all her old, pretty, white embroidered linens, so you've inspired me. The linens seem to beg to be used outside in some elegant way. They seem to beg to be used at all, actually. I will heed their call.
