Ugh, ladies. Its been a frustrating year for me. The main reason Ive been so spotty here is my current client has kept me busy and frustrated. I signed an NDA, so I can't chat to what I'm doing, but lets just say the pay schedule has destroyed my budget. As in, I can't make one because I'm paid...
Oh, that's a shame, because the premise is so interesting!
I've read The Handmaid's Tale multiple times, and I HATE first person narratives. I will say this, the tv show didn't push as hard as the book did, and the show did two things that I found laughable, it made the women more an enemy to...
American Gods, which I wanted to like a lot more than I did. I found the story really slow, Shadow lacking, and I figured out a good chunk of the "mystery" about half way through. I have other extensive thoughts on the book, but over all aside from the lavish descriptions, I found it kinda boring.
My first time.
I gotta say, I think it's because the ideas of this book are so engrained in modern society, that I am finding this a rather lackluster read. I would read a book about the Ministries and the philosophies of New Speak all day long, but Winston is an annoying protagonist.
It's a film a lot of people are not going to get. I thought it was something but its a screaming commentary on how hard it is to listen to women when they say they need help.
For me, just when I thought some things were coming together, I get news that a job I'm doing is getting cut back, and two clients I have need revisions on their jobs. Ugh!
I've come to realize that feeling good and being optimistic, hurts.
