Interesting vintage pin curl and waving tools

Thanks Olive! Yeah totally know what you mean about hair damage! The good news is that there are tons of ways to wave without heat, if you have the patience to let it dry! I have the waving clamps, but never have time to use them!

Interesting vintage pin curl and waving tools

Thanks Olive! Ok, here is a pic of how it looked - It is really similar to a modern waving iron...not quite as good as the traditional finger wave technique but considering I had my whole head done in about 10 mins...it worked in a pinch!

Interesting vintage pin curl and waving tools

Ok, just thought I would update you guys on my marcel iron...I tried it ( was nervous the whole time) and it worked beautifully on my hair! It didn't overheat or burn my hair, it actually was pretty gentle on it, and it produced a cool wave - it sort of reminds me of the same wave I get from my...

    The ones that got away

Wow...did anyone watch the 1930's knitting pattern book on ebay? http://www.ebay.com/itm/280857681859?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 It went for $400....such a cool book, I have never seen one bound like that. Mary

Interesting vintage pin curl and waving tools

Ok....so that is probably one of the stupidest questions I have asked yet....(lol always trying to beat my own record) I just got my hands on a 1920's electric marcel waver and it WORKS! I am sooooooo tempted to try it despite every rational voice in my head saying I am going to scald my hair...

    Calling Toronto FLers!

I think all stores here have been summed up nicely, the only place I would mentioned is a little shop called Mrs. Huizenga's on Roncesvalles ...lately it has been totally spruced up and she has a lot of awesome vintage items, mostly I buy household items from there but I have found two gorgeous...

The Cleaning Clothes (vintage or other) Thread

I have been trying to search on here for cleaning knitted dresses, 30's to 50's....I have a few of them and some are pretty dingy. Would these be dry clean only items?

    Are my hot sticks busted???

Ok...thank you for replying because until you said that I hadn't noticed that the "light" wasn't a real light but just one of those coloured marks that turn colour when they are ready...LOL wow how did I miss that one??? Anyway, I plugged them in and noticed that on mine, the spot goes very very...

How to do my hair for the Titanic...

If you would like more help on what would be Edwardian-era appropriate, I recommend the ladies over at the yahoo group Titanic Dresses. I am the creater/moderator of the group and can vouch for the experience of everyone there! (Nikki, who was mentioned earlier, is a member and she has much...

    Are my hot sticks busted???

Hi ladies, To those of you who have hot sticks for your do's, I have a question: so I just bought two hot stick sets off of ebay, and I used them last weekend. The only thing is that I had them heating for 30 mins and the indicator light still was not turning on... After 30 minutes I gave...

    The ones that got away

Did anyone notice the gorgeous green 30's 40's cotton day dress on Ebay? Sadly it was already lost to me when I saw it go above $85 but I honestly never predicted it would go to $213!!!! I love it, but when I think of some of the gorgeous evening gowns I could buy with that price tag...I...

Damaged dress, what should I do?

Miss Sofia - how awful! Yes good thing you had safety pins! I am slowly learning to always be prepared! Sheeplady: yes you are right...I actually am beginning to hesitate to shop from this store anymore - it is known to be very overpriced to begin with - I was mentioning on another post that...

Damaged dress, what should I do?

Thanks so much ladies for all of your help, suggestions and your sympathies....I know now that a lot of you have been there done that! I now see it is just the risk you run of buying vintage...this is the first time this has ever happened to me so I just wasn't sure if this was a common...
