    1911

I've had a Colt Commander since it was a pup, straight out of the box. Its 3/4" shorter than the full size. Blued slide and matte gray frame. I put some stag grips on it and stopped there with the whistles and bells. Someone earlier in the thread compared it to hot-rodding, do as much as you...

Ask a question, get an answer

Thanks. I'm frustrated enough to try the homemade version of this and get medieval on it. I bought it new for $39.00 at the factory outlet. I wonder if it has a defect. These run much higher elsewhere.

What is flange the brim and can I do it at the kitchen table?

It was a reference to a game show. I hope to correct the one I have.

    Drinking in the Morning

Reminds me of an earlier section of my life that I have worked hard to distance myself from. I'll probably bookmark and it watch it instead of working most of tomorrow and a good part of Monday.

New question: Straw hats for $100, please I bought a new Dobbs Bellagio this summer. I can't keep the brim snapped. I've tried steam, water, spray starch, hanging weights overnight. Nothing will keep the thing from popping up. I don't think I can bring out my inner cool with the brim up. Any...

    Hair cuts

I've gone to the same place for about 15 years. Old barbers and old clients. Its sort of a guys only place. No TV. A radio on the big band station. Some private discussions between barber and customer but usually any conversation is open to the floor. Cuts are about 20 minutes or more. The...

Are you feeling the economic crunch?

I quit an agency gig last year, where I had been for 13 years, to work for myself. The needle dropped on the income gauge immediately but thankfully I was somewhat prepared. People use insurance to see me. A man offered me golf balls and clubs for his co-pay. I passed and use this time to build...

What do you do for Living?

Marriage & Family Therapist. I took the long route from music education- human resources-therapist. Only took 25 years in school but I have some letters and stuff after my name.

    Men Shaving Vintage Style

Avoid a collection unless that's you're going for Years ago I got all wound up about straight razors. I got one on a whim then bought several lots off ebay. Got a brand spanking new one on-line. Learned to hone and strop. As I got familiar with their traits I realized OK ones from swell ones...

Hats for you: More for function or fashion?

It started with function. I wore ratty straw numbers when I worked outside for a living. I wore them until until they weren't recognizable as hats. I slowly shifted towards nicer models as my job and peers shifted towards nicer models. I wouldn't say my choices have become stylish, just nicer.

    Seasons for your hats

For many years here in Dallas I've noticed Hispanics (people from Mexico, Central, S America) wearing hats out of season. Straw in winter and black felt in summer. My best guess is maybe it matches the month-season south of the equator. My vocabulary en espanol is not where I could quiz the man...

Air Conditioning in the Golden Era

I think swamp coolers, evaporator coolers, have been around for quite a time. They seem to work best in arid areas. I had one briefly in Denton, TX that was a step up from nothing but it roared like a plane and the humidity it put in the house put a coat of rust on anything metal and curled both...

    The Art of being happy.

A common theme of the FL is the re-capping of others' lives. From our view we can see how our ancestors lived and have intimate details of what happened when and how. The big picture view is almost always brighter than when we're standing knee-deep in ugly. I remind myself of how time shifts...
