Darned if I didn't just pull the trigger an a second vintage Snowy River, this time in grey. I was looking at eBay sales to find one similar to my brown one for a female friend, and made a very low offer for one in great shape, with my preferred thin ribbon instead of the leather hatband.

Horween CXL and Horween Shell Cordovan are two different leathers, both are available in Colour 8. Are you conflating the two? My answer mentions the difference regarding mirror shines.

I have a pair of Alden cap toe shell Cordovan boots in Colour 8 with some fine broguing,, I consider them to be a casual dress boot, that can be dressed up or down. They shine when brushed but Cordovan isn't really meant to be covered in polish and given a mirror shine. CXL leather even less so...

Nice bash, looks great! Mine has been getting heavy wear this winter, it generates quite a few spontaneous compliments from strangers, unlike any other of my Western hats.
