LizzieMaine,
I could not agree more ... and great comments on the lounge lizard. Heavens, I laughed my behind off on that one. I really thought Judi Dench would have been a much better cast for Queen Elizabeth as the name still rings authentic from MRS BROWN.
For those who may want more information on "Dr" Lionel Logue, the King's therapist, here is his Wikipedia page, for starters:

This is a fascinating part of history, especially from the royal's perspective. I feel another movie coming on that will...
Guy Pearce was .... er ... credible, I would say. I dont know the intricate history of the Prince of Wales but assume that Pearce's impression was close. I wish that the movie had provided more of a background to the trashy party at Balmoral to better understand POW's character and reasons for...
Jedburgh OSS,
Wow. Great story! Thanks for sharing that. Which probably provides evidence that the King never did solve his stuttering/stammering problem.
Cobden,
Much appreciated. I emailed the owner; apparently they don't ship to the U.S. He had great prices on P37. He said he still had tons of P37 in stock but never returned any of our emails about ordering from us. Argh. Were finding bits and peices of it at gunshows and of all places...
Just finished:
TROOP LEADER: A Commander's Story by Bill Bellamy
Sutton Publishing, 2005, London
I traded emails with this gentleman several years ago. He just passed on:
Obituary - CAPT Bill Bellamy (1923-2009) , courtesy The Times...
Saw it last night.
BIG disappointment.
The characters were not fully developed.
Helena Bonham Carter (Queen Elizabeth) simply does not sell after one has seen THE QUEEN or MRS BROWN.
Mannerisms and speech seemed 'pushed' and I didnt buy it.
Firth (KGVI) is good, but we never delve into WHY...
Gentlemen,
A very appreciative "thank you"! I will be posting again in the events section. I did check out the event at the 1940's Air Terminal (here in Houston; not sure why I forgot about that place - they have been doing events there for quite some time!) and sent and email to them...
I have studied Monty now for about 25 years. 3 points stand out:
1. Monty's ability to bring 3rd Division out of Dunkirk in tact and with great elan. He trained his division to a high peak, emphasizing nighttime transport and movement, knowing (in the back of his mind) the British...
Most of the t.v. / movie themes have been answered, but I would suggest a book, FIRE FROM THE FOREST By Ken Ford. Available from Amazon.com. The SAS worked closely with the French resistance, specifically the groups operating in Limouge, the Cherbourg peninsula and on the DZ's used by the SAS...
I am looking for any 1940's events in Houston, Texas ... wondering if there is place I can post for those who are here. I posted this message in the events section but I think it was deleted. Q: where do I post to contact / set up events?
Regards,
Mick
This stuff is getting scarce and so were searching the net for any bits and peices (odds and sods) that may be out there. If anyone has any good leads we would be appreciative!

Mick
