All joshing aside, there's probably a cottage industry for someone on these forums (or a Friend-of-a-Friend) who has basic computer hardware skills and an artistic bent. Anyone in an Undergraduate or Graduate Design course might also be a good candidate.

There's a perfect opportunity for someone to bridge the 21st century world of necessary technology with art, particularly Art Deco. I know that ElectriClerk caught my eye about four years ago and I've never forgot it, so I'd be interested in 'disguised technology'. I'm saving up for a Bose WAVE system to hide away in a cabinet, since I don't want a modern monstrosity in my domicile.

FWIW, if anyone takes up on the creative idea expressed above, drop me a line - I'm a pretty good scrounger and I've passed by scads of pre-WWII typewriters (in fact, I've got one boat-anchor example in my garage as I type this, should anyone be interested).

All this talk about machine age... "machines" reminded me of a design for hypothetical 1940's personal computing apparatus I sketched a while ago:

I guess the case would have been made out of mahogany or shiny black bakelite.

There are a couple of toaster ovens to match this one on eBay right now. I wonder how difficult it would be to duplicate this? I'd certainly like to have one.

You fellows were reading my mind... I was gonna post something about Art Deco design for computers, but you beat me to it!

Guess you could make the flat panel monitor look like a vintage picture frame and the keyboard like a typewriter. How about a mouse that looks like a Ronson tabletop lighter?

Well- as much of it that's decent today...
My Mac IS my office- the rest, I leave up to my imagination.
Actualy using a PC at present but can't beat the old CRT Apple Studio Display...

it still amazes me how people who have clutter everywhere can still find everything they need. My ideal office layout: everything all neat and tidy. I would love an office with a big window looking out over some kind of body of water
