Anyone have any tricks for getting new blue jeans to fade like they did in the old days. I guess the denim they are using today just fades different, but I thought maybe someone has a recipe/trick to get them to fade better/faster. Thanks ahead of time for any experience or help.

I'm fading
But not my jeans, I go to the opposite extreme, and try and keep the dark blue of my 501's as bright as possible, to differentiate myself from those who buy pre-stressed or fake finish clothes...they will fade naturally in their own time..patience has its own reward

I usually just buy my jeans somewhat pre-faded. I personally think it looks better, but thats just me. what i hate are the pre-worn, pre-wrinkled, tattered, holes in the keens and fake dirt all over it. Its hard to find a pair that isn't all of those things when you buy it. I really don't like it; too contrived.
When I was a kid (and I'm not that old) you knew when another kid had a new pair of jeans. He couldn't bend the knees and they shown like blue bug light.
I always said when I saw a great pair of faded beat up jeans that the owner "Earned them" He wore them year after year...
Pre-bought faded jeans may look good at first, but they're not a true faded denim look. And they wear out in about 2 years tops. Why? Because the factory beat the heck out of them. Unlike normal washes which slowly remove the color, the factory takes it out in one big 'acid wash".
For me, I love that I can buy the vintage levis again. I buy them bright blue and stiff as a board. Because I know in 10 years they'll look great!
As to getting that great faded look with a new pair... buy a used pair that fits you. Instant "real" fade and you can say they're new... to you that is.
