Gramophones, Phonographs, Victrolas....

This is a 1940 General Electric model HM-3 phonograph attachment. You plugged these into your radio (with input availability) and you had a complete phono system. This one is special in that it was designed by famous art-deco industrial designer John Vassos. It's tear dropped shaped in mottled brown/black bakelite with a whimsical tone arm shaped like a period streamliner locomotive. The record is a late 1940's Vogue picture 78RPM.

YW - There's a few similar models made in the '40's, but the unique tone arm on this one makes it top the list. Some of these has their own amp/speaker, and some even a small transmitter. You tuned in a nearby radio and listened to the record. I have a Packard-Bell like that. Great deco pieces.
