Ol' Colonel Sanders knew what to do with 'em . . . I was at the Australian Reptile Park not long ago with my son and we got a good view of the giant crocodile they have there. Seeing the hard scales (scutes I think they're called) on its back and tail made me think it was very dinosaur-like.

Mothman, anyone? I remember when the legend began. Never knew what to make of it. Apparently it is being resurrected. There were even reports of Mothman sightings in Chicago last year. Any Loungers from the Point Pleasant, West Virginia area?

For decades, large, hairy, manlike beasts called Bigfoot have occasionally been reported by eyewitnesses across America. Despite the thousands of Bigfoot that must exist for a breeding population, not a single body has been found. Not one has been killed by a hunter, struck dead by a speeding car, or even died of natural causes. In the absence of hard evidence like teeth or bones, support comes down to eyewitness sightings and ambiguous photos and films.

Since it is logically impossible to prove a universal negative, science will never be able to prove that creatures like Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster do not exist, and it is possible that these mysterious beasts lurk far from prying eyes?

Bigfoot defies logic for all the reasons that you state. Yet the sightings continue. And many sightings are reported by seemingly responsible, upstanding citizens.

Here is an interesting sighting. It is quite recent. The guy's story sounds reasonable enough. And a photo is provided of --it seems like-- a female bigfoot. Admittedly a fuzzy photo. Is that a paper bag on her head? Nonetheless the sightings keep rolling in. This is by no means the first sighting, and it certainly won't be the last.

"Bigfoot/Sasquatch/Skunk Ape/Yeti/Abominable Snowman/whateveryoucallit" is an extraterrestrial species that has solved the problems of propulsion over great distances through the universe. Why they come here to Earth, I don't know. Vacation? Observation? They like screwing with we Terrans? Whatever their reasons, it explains a lot. No physical evidence of their presence except for the occasional footprint? They pack out their trash and they're far better at it than we are. Sure, they occasionally leave a patch of hair/fur on a branch somewhere, but who doesn't? No bodies? If they're injured or killed they take the bodies home with them for appropriate disposal. Reclusive? Again, if they're on vacation they want to be left alone, and if they're here to observe and learn more about us they really don't want us to be aware of their presence. Maybe they just like it here; I don't know. But this theory provides answers for a lot of questions.

But it was gone by the time the witness got closer!

I’m with Lean’n’mean on this one. But I really have no explanations or theories beyond that.

There was a British made horror movie in the fifties called "The Abominable Snowman:

Films like that play into the psyche of those who want to believe and goes a long way to perpetuate the myth.

Here is a short piece (5 minutes) on the famous Patterson-Gimlin film of 1967 that made Bigfoot/Sasquatch a household name. My initial “go to” view was that it simply must be a man in a gorilla suit. However, the film does make some good counterpoints. Apparently debunkers and anthropologists are still debating some of the Patterson-Gimlin film’s finer points.

All of which got me curious: what is the best evidence for Bigfoot?
I like the skeptical yet open-minded approach that this guy takes:

https://www.themeateater.com/conservation/anthropology/whats-the-best-evidence-bigfoot-exists

Bottom line: The evidence is less than definitive but enough to make you scratch your head: There’s the long history of the sightings, the Native American cultural lore, the hundreds of cast footprints (many of which anthropologists say appear genuine), and dozens of photos that can’t be proven one way or another. And what about those “nests”? But the thing that is the strangest is the hundreds of sightings by non-crazy people who claim to have had encounters and who say, more or less, “I know what I saw. I know what bears look like. This was not a bear but some kind of ape-like creature. I know what I saw and that’s all the proof I need.”

Still. No body ever found. No bones or teeth. No road kill or hunter kill. No primate hair samples. I know the American and Canadian west includes vast areas of forest... but vast enough to conceal a breeding population of large primates?? Seems unlikely.

Then again: what’s with all the sightings? The Eureka sighting (above) is a good example. Seems credible but ultimately falls just short of crossing the goal line.

An enduring mystery ...and F.L.A.S.K. Will likely never hear the end of it. Thank goodness, I say.

^ I thought the Patterson-Gimlin footage had been pretty well proven to be fake when Bob Heironimus not only confessed in 1998 to being the "Bigfoot" in the footage, but was also able to readily provide answers to things about the "event" and seen in the footage that had investigators stumped since the footage was discovered?

Who knows? Later Bob Heironimus stated he was trying to cash in on the film because everyone else had, and “now it was his turn.” He sold his story to the tabloids but —apparently— contradicted himself in the details.

I
’m not claiming to know one way or the other. As with anything that reaches a certain level of Public attention, all of a sudden everyone seems to be trying to cash in. I hate it that it comes down to charges and counter-charges, but I guess that’s the world we live in. Apparently, the “confession” of Bob Heironimus is as questionable as anything else in this story.

I do like the foot prints, but foot prints can be faked.
Which takes us full circle back to The Devil's Footprints of the mid nineteenth century.

Did Hitler commit suicide at the end of WW2? A TV program that I saw recently claimed that he was not only spirited away to Argentina, but the FBI colluded in the affair. Wiki gives quite a lot about such conspiracy theories but in everyone, Hitler seems to make a miraculous recovery from the Parkinson's Disease that he had. As far as I know, there is to date, still no known cure for Parkinson's.

The last film of him is where he is inspecting the parade of teenage boys. He holds one hand behind his back, but you can clearly see the uncontrollable shake. He was 56, that's no age today, but he was manic, demented, had Parkinson's and suddenly he pops up in Argentina, fit as a fiddle. Pull the other one.
