Cheesy Sci-Fi Film Appreciation

As much as I love those classic, inetellectual, heartfelt dramatic films that sweep the Oscars and delve into deep questions of humanity, there will always be a soft spot in my heart for those great science fiction films of the 50's and 60's.
You know the kind I mean, a giant radioactive something-or-other is terrorizing a local community and only the local sheriff's deputy or rowdy teenager can stop it. I'll never forget the first time I saw Them! and knew I'd always keep a watchful eye out for giant ants.
So, fellow FL members, what cheesy sci-fi movie holds a special place in your collection?

remote creatures

Its a nice rip off of the classic Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Lost World story, which has dinosaurs trapped on a remote plateau in South America's Amazon.

Wasnt the Anaconda 1997movie also set in the Amazon?

I suppose some of the B movies were fueled when the Coelacanth was found in `38 off Africa.

As for Antarctica, Shackleton didnt see any dinosaurs, but thats a great expedition.

The Creature was an "A" Universal film at the time. Hideous Sun Demon, ok cheesy knock off but the Creature is well done!

THEM! was not a "cheesy" movie to most lovers of Atomic-monster-SciFi. With actors such as James Whitmore, James Arness, and Fess Parker, it was a hit with us. I met James Whitmore on the set of The Majestic and I was honored. What a nice man. I miss him on the screen.

I LOVE Forbidden Planet! (1956)

It actually has a really cool story line once you get past the acting and cheesy (although what I imagine was cutting edge for the time.) special effects.

This movie has always been dear to me, they filmed most of it not far from where I grew up, at Wakulla Springs, Florida.
The sad thing is a re-make has been planned. :rage:

As for "Them," well, I think that's a film that could very easily be re-made today, but also probably shouldn't...

The Green Slime (1968)

A giant asteroid is heading toward Earth so some astronauts disembark from a nearby space station to blow it up. The mission is successful, and they return to the station unknowingly bringing back a gooey green substance that mutates into one-eyed tentacled monsters that feed off electricity. Soon the station is crawling with them, and people are being zapped left and right!

We have a Science Fiction group which meets every month to view old movies and television shows. This month we watched four episodes from the Dr. Who series which were originally broadcast in 1966, titled "The Tenth Planet".

It was absolutely horrendous in every aspect, from the set design to the writing, to the acting. Both Lost In Space and Star Trek were in production during that same year, and were "light years" (pun intended) ahead in every category.

This was when the "Cybermen" were introduced, and there probably hadn't been a more laughable robotic character on screen since the crude examples of the serials of the 1930's.

Not quite science fiction, but 'She Gods of Shark Reef' is great low brow viewing.
