Everyone loves the show us your purchases thread, but what if you're feeling a little indecisive and can't share there quite yet? Ask for our opinion and ye shall receive! A paradise for enabling - or if you're watching your pennies we can all yell at you.

I'll start!

I've been watching this for a while and came into a bit of spending money this weekend. I like it a lot, I've just never bought a suit before!

This pattern to re-create my favorite look from The Shop Around the Corner. I've also stared at this and similar patterns forever, but her body looks so long like it goes on forever.. mine doesn't.

Personally, I love suits. I think I'd rather wear a suit over a dress, but it depends on your life and needs.

I think you are a student, is that right? Would you really wear a suit for everyday or is it more for when you're not at school? Is the colour and style good to use the pieces separately with other things in your wardrobe?

This is how I try to work out if a purchase is going to work for me or just sit in my cupboard glaring at me everytime I open the door!

SayCici, I think that pattern is adorable. I think it's also a pattern that could be made out of existing patterns that you might (if I remember correctly) already have. Combine jumper straps, knee-length 8-gore (or 6?) skirt with waistband, sleeve-less bolero jacket, and embroider some pretty flowers on the sleeves and collar.

As for the suit, if it fits for the most part, you could easily invest a few extra dollars for professional alterations. I think a simple, tailored, dark suit is a necessary investment for sure, vintage or not...

so I would say (if your trying to save money) 1. go for the suit and 2. make up your own pattern. :)

Thanks Miss Sis, those are definitely things to consider! The navy color definitely fits in with my wardrobe, and I wouldn't mind wearing it on campus, maybe only one piece at a time though. Honestly Lauren is inspiring me here, her outfits always look so sharp when she's wearing a jacket/blazer!

Miss_Becky, I think you're right! The thing I like most about the pattern (suspenders) would be the easiest thing to re-create on my own, and while I like the fullness of the skirt, I'm on the fence about it and I have a gored skirt pattern I know looks good. :)

Campus, huh? Well, you won't be a student forever and it would make a wickedly good interview suit! I give it 9 out of 10 peep'd toes just because I have to wonder if you could make it yourself. You're talented like that, Cici!

Edited to say: The "Campus, huh?" question was meant to convey that I just figured out you are in college! I didn't mean it to sound like I was questioning if you could wear it on campus. You certainly could. Sorry if it sounded funny. I didn't realize until I re-read it that it could sound smart alecy the other way! EEK!

Aw, thanks for that (undeserved!) vote of confidence! At my old community college the suit would definitely have increased the number of stares I got, but starting in May I'll be going to a big ol' university so I think it'd be more appropriate, or there'll at least be a bunch more people for me to blend in to. :D

Cici,

A dark navy 50's suit from a Chicago department store was one of the first vintage pieces I bought. The second I put it on, everything changed. It fit so well and felt so good, I couldn't believe it. For the first time in ages, I didn't feel like the freak standing in the fitting room wondering why nothing fit or looked good!

I'm obviously sentimental about navy suits.
If it makes your heart sing, get it.

More indecisiveness

I've been looking for some flat shoes to wear with jeans. The saddle shoes are a bit clunky for me though. I spotted these on Aris Allen, but then I read the blurb and realised they were repro vintage... 70s! I wondered what you ladies thought - am I totally off the track thinking these might go with my 40s style?

I don't think they'd look totally out of place, but the colors and fabric do lend to looking 70s. What about keds? They're not clunky, been around for a long time, and because of the simplicity of their style they could be a little more versatile.

Thanks for the replies!
The Keds are a little bit too casual for me.

As for 70s colours... hm. I wear a lot of chocolate brown. Maybe I'm a closet 70s wearer :)

Missjay,
i think those shoes do look a tiny bit 70's....but ONLY after you mentioned that they were repro 70's! I honestly thought of the 1930's when I saw the pic. I can see them being worn with brown, tan or white slacks...I see a 1930's Athletic/Sporty/Casual look in those shoes.

Miss jay, if you like them then wear them, thats all that matters.
The most stylish people are the ones who rock their own style by adding a bit of this and a bit of that, plus so much of 70's fashion was based on the
30s/40's anyway !
I am sure if you choose to buy them and wear then you will look fabulous.
I for one think they are cute !!!

I've had my eye on this little corset inspired top and I've almost convinced myself toward purchase. My taste leans toward girly, but at 40 I think it's time to introduce a hint of bombshell into my daily life. This seems girly-meets-bombshell.

Again, why isn't the image working? Did FL change the image upload, or am I remembering incorrectly?
