I have a Heritage Campdraft. The sweat is awesome. The felt - not so much. It makes me handsome for people who can't tell the difference. Lol -
Making a tight hat fit. The easy way!
That sounds like the sweatband on my Campdraft that crumpled when I tried to pull the wire. Here's a photo of a not yet even broke in Akubra Tablelands. You can see a little twinkle of a brass ferrule holding the ends of the steel wire together. The wire I pulled was the exact same stuff used... -

I didn't realize Akubra used steel wires as the reed. I have never stripped down an Akubra. I have refurbished lots of vintage hats that had an actual organic reed used as the 'reed' . The Campdraft is the only model that I’m aware of that comes with a wind trolley. It won’t keep it on your head, just from blowing away. Some of their western styles may come with stampede strings but I’m unaware. They could be added. Pull it down snug. -

That’s a great hat, and to me, a great choice that meets all your criteria. I know the felt is a bit heavy, but it should hold up well to the rigors of your trip. I always hate trying to decide which one (or if I have room, two) hats to take for trips. -

...Asia is tough on lids so whichever goes with has to hold up well under heat and rain, be fun to wear, and be replaceable. This heritage fawn Fed IV does fit all those criteria.
